Wyatt was a Junior Optimist of the month for September 2008 and Nichol for October 2008. The Lebanon Optimist Club honors one student from every school in the Lebanon area on a monthly basis. At the end of the year, all the students are invited to the awards ceremony.

Optimists Club gives JOYA awards to students

Each year the Lebanon Optimist Club selects students to receive Junior Optimist Youth Attitude (JOYA) awards to recognize students selected by school officials for displaying an optimistic attitude and spirit of helpfulness. This is the 10th year of the JOYA program.

Every Lebanon area school, except Lebanon High School, chooses one student for each of the nine months of the school year. Each academy at LHS names one student for each trimester. All students receive a certificate and congratulations from community leaders at a ceremony held in May.

Leaders participating in the event included Linn County Sheriff Tim Mueller, Linn County District Attorney Jason Carlile and Circuit Court Judge Carol Bispham.

According to the Optimist Club, optimistic students are happy, thoughtful, and kind; they have giving hearts and creative minds; and they contribute happiness, peace and productivity to their classrooms and school.

Seth Boyd, Hamilton Creek School’s October Optimist of the Month winner, is recognized May 28 at the 10th Annual Junior Optimist Youth Attitude (JOYA) Awards night held at Lebanon High School Auditorium. ROBIN CAMP/Lebanon Express
