Youth Activities:

  • Essays/Oratoricals: Youth of certain ages are able to write specific essays or oratoricals to earn a scholarship.
  • JOYA (Junior Optimist Youth Attitude Award): is a program we do to give youth a chance to get a scholarship.  Each school that is involved gives us a name of a student in their school who deserves an award.  In May we have an awards night where all the youth from that school year (who have been awarded a JOYA award during the school year) are invited to be awarded certificates and shake hands of the delegates of our community.  Students in their Senior year who have been awarded a JOYA award are eligible to apply for a JOYA Scholarship.
  • Shop With A Cop: During Christmas season we donate a certain amount of money to Shop With A Cop to support the youth of our community. "This seasonal activity is funded through donations by individuals and businesses and allows underprivileged children to do their own Holiday Season shopping. It has been a very successful and rewarding event, bringing both the child (who has the fun of shopping) and the officer (who accompanies the little person) together for a very fun buying adventure."
  • CSC (Community Services Consortium) Programs: There are multiple CSC programs which our volunteers can volunteer for. (ie. tutoring, mentoring, volunteering, donating, etc.)
  • BLT (Build Lebanon Trails) Events: We are currently talking about doing a "walk" to earn money for youth in the community.  Either way, it's a great source for youth to get exercise.
  • Speaker Programs: We have speakers join us for a specific meeting to tell us about their business in the community, tell about themselves, etc.  We also have youth from the schools come and tell us about the classes and programs they are involved in.

  • National Night Out: The National Night Out (in the month of August) has been set up for youth to learn safety about their neighborhood watch and to unite against crime activity.
  • Donation Requests (Board Vote Required): Throughout the year there are programs and activities that youth need funding to help them be involved (ie. class trip, books, youth programs, Shop with a Cop, etc.)

Fundraising: All and any fundraising monies go to the youth in our community.  We are a non profit club and need to do fundraising activities to earn money for the youth.  We do accept donations too.

  • Holiday's In The Park: The first weekend in December is the Holiday's in the Park event.  This event is also set up of vendors and we've sold pie, coffee, and cocoa in the past.  At this event, children can have story time, sit on Santa's lap, ride a horse drawn carriage or the LOCO motive, watch singers and dancers on the stage, and at a set time, the Mayor and his wife do the count down for the holiday lights to turn on and light up the park.
  • Cheadle Lake Events: Cheadle Lake is having more and more events at their location, currently we are involved in the Star Spangled Celebration, we will be doing more events soon.
    • Strawberry Breakfast:  The Strawberry Breakfast (in June) is one of our big events.  A price is set per person, and the food is all you can eat.  We have pancakes, eggs, ham, juice, milk, coffee, etc.  After the breakfast, people go and watch the Strawberry Parade and then go to the festival at Cheadle Lake to have some of the worlds largest Strawberry Shortcake.
    • Star Spangled Celebration: (on July 4th) is at Cheadle Lake.  There is a festival at Cheadle Lake and we are one of the vendors.  Sometimes we sell Hot Dogs, Ice Cream, Watermelon, Cold Drinks, etc.
