The Traditional School of Shotokan is located inside Bodyworks of Tiffin @ 1550 W. Market St., directly behind the Tiffin Ace Hardware Store.

At the Traditional School of Shotokan, we teach Traditional Shotokan Karate & Self-Defense based on practical applications. The rule of K.I.S.S. applies to our type of training.
Traditional Shotokan Karate is a Japanese Style of Karate fashioned for women, children, and short statured people without a lot of upper body strength. Learning to use body dynamics, proper breathing, and mental focus teaches even a small, weaker person to generate dynamic power and focus with techniques. The Arts of Kyusho-Jutsu & Tuitte aren't lost in translation, nor are the Arts of Judo, Ju-Jitsu & Kendo; which are all a part of Shotokan, as taught by Master Gichin Funakoshi, the Founder of the Shotokan style of Karate. All of the Arts Master Funakoshi incorporated into his style of Shotokan, make it a well rounded style of Karate good for Self-Defense, groundfighting, and close-quarters fighting.
Though there are strict standards and protocols in learning and advancing in Karate, Self-Defense is kept straight-forward with simple, easy to learn and use techniques that anyone can learn. Whether you want to learn a Traditional style of Karate, or simple Self-Defense; the Traditional School of Shotokan has qualified Instructors to teach both. All students are ranked by the American Japan Karate Association (AJKA), as well as the Japan Karate Association (JKA) with higher level belt ranking students certified to teach.

Chief Black Belt Instructor, Becky McCann, has over 30 years of experience in training and teaching the Shotokan style of Karate, through intensive training with Masters of the Shotokan style and other Martial diciplines. Such Master Instructors as; Hidetaka Nishiyama & Masatoshi Nakayama (two of the Founders of the JKA), Keinosuki Enoeda, Hirokazu Kanazawa (Founder of Shotokan Karate International), Teruyuki Okazaki (Founder of International Shotokan Karate Federation - ISKF), Shojiro Sugiyama (formerly JKA), Ray Dalke (Founder of AJKA), Chris Smaby (AAKF & JKA), Robert Fusaro (AAKF & JKA), Edmond Otis (Chief Instructor AJKA-I), Vince Morris (Founder of Kissaki-Kai Karate-Do), Professor Wally & Leon Jay (Founder of Small Circle Ju-Jutsu), and Soke Michael Sr. & Shihan Michael Jr. DePasquale (Founder of Yoshitsune Ju-Jitsu).

Come in and watch a class or sign up and give it a try.
Our classes are held on Tues & Thurs from 6:30pm to 8:30pm
For Karate; we prefer children ages 6 and older, unless a sibling or adult is in the class with them, or they have trained in another Dojo with a youth program.
Adults of all ages are welcome to train and do things within limitations...we're not here to injure or aggrivate old injuries; but help improve your balance, coordination, maintain flexiblity & muscle strength, and increase your self-esteem & self-confidence through learning how to defend yourself, if necessary.
Check with Larry or Diane @ Bodyworks for our fees, as they depend on whether you are a Bodyworks Member or not.
Other information on what Bodyworks has to offer can be found on their link @: www.tiffinbodyworks.com
Hope to see you at the Dojo!
