Youth Court

What is Youth Court?

Youth Court is a type of youth development and prevention program. It is a voluntary alternative to the criminal justice system for young people who, for the first time, have committed a low level crime or offense. The goal of Youth Court is to intervene in early anti-social, deliquent, and criminal behavior, and to reduce the incidence and prevent the escalation of such behavior. Youth Court strives to hold youth accountable for their actions and provide community base sentences. Through education and participation, Youth Court also strives to promote feelings of self esteem and a desire for self improvement, and to foster a healthy attitiude toward rules and authority. To this end, Youth Court also offers a law related education programfor young people who seek to become members of the Court.
