Appointment-Based Tutoring

Individual tutoring appointments are available to students seeking assistance in subjects for which tutoring is not generally available in the campus labs. Although we cannot guarantee a tutor for every subject requested, we strive to meet the needs of as many students as possible. During the first visit to the Learning Center, students must complete a nominal amount of paperwork and add a noncredit tutoring section to their semester schedules. Appointments are available in a wide variety of disciplines each semester, including but not limited to:

Accounting

Chemistry

Child Development

Developmental Communications

French

German

Math

Physical Science

Psychology

Sociology

Spanish

Statistics

 

and others. For specific information, contact the Tutoring Office in person or by phone at (818)947-2744. Due to budget constraints, individual tutoring appointments are very limited, so come early in the semester to get the best spots!

The Tutoring Lab

NOTE: There are no drop-in tutoring hours in the Learning Center during the Summer session. For information about individual appointments during Summer, please call (818)947-2744.

The Learning Center offers walk-in tutoring in the main tutoring lab during Fall and Spring semesters. The primary subjects offered in the lab include Chemistry, Physics, Statistics, Accounting, and Economics. Additional offerings include Biology, Math, Physical Science, and others. No appointment is necessary to use the walk-in lab. During the first visit to the Learning Center, students must complete a nominal amount of paperwork and add a noncredit tutoring section to their semester schedules. Requirements for Tutoring

1. You must be enrolled in the current semester and have no outstanding obligations (HOLDS) on your record. The best way to supply proof of enrollment and good standing with the college is by presenting a copy of your registration receipt on your initial visit. Prior to being tutored, you must also complete Learning Center paperwork every semester.

2. The individual tutoring program is available by appointment only, and requires at least 24 hours notice to make or change appointments. You must also make at least the first appointment in person. 

General Policies

  • No audible music
  • No cell phone usage
  • No children (any minor who is not enrolled at LAVC)
  • No food or drink except for bottled water
  • Proof of current enrollment may be requested at any time by any staff member
