Laura's Feathered Friends

I am a Mom of two Wonderful Boys that mean the World to me. They are my Life's Purpose. A little about me... I was diagnosed with Idiopathic Hypersomnia in 1999.It changed my life completely, however like many of life's trials I/we have managed to accept as well as overcome many storms that has blown our way. Cherishing every moment given is what counts.
Now with all that out of the way, my intent for this web site is to Share as much of the knowledge that was shared with me throughout the years that I worked for Bills Pets. I started raising birds approximately 8 years ago. Bill got me started in cockatiels and the love of our feathered friends just flourished from there.
I have always been a "Sucker" for the older birds that have some disabling problem/s.
My Motto for Older Birds is...They Need Love Too! My first Grey, I acuired from a woman that didn't know what she was going to do with it. I told her to get me a box. He was the most pitiful thing I had ever saw and as wild as a wild boar. He couldn't hold his head straight and was self mutalating. Within 3 weeks, I was able to touch Jerry Byrd. He is now about 9 years old. He still can't hold his head straight and still goes through picking stages but all mutalation has stopped. He's a great talker and like one of my own children. He is a part of our family and has won over the hearts of all.
I have several other birds that people didn't want anymore for one reason or another. Mostly due to the noise factor of thier species or because they were biting. This is why I try to inform people to be sure to know what they are getting when they are looking for a bird. I guess this about sums it up about me, for now anyway.
