Welcome to Laura's Fossils!

On August 9th 2003 my dad and me went fossil hunting. We had fun! We found a lot of cool things. We found some fish vertebrae, and a shark tooth. We also found two fish jaws and some dried up fish poop (coprolites). And we also found a fish tail. We also found a mosasaur rib and a tooth of a mosasaur. A mosasaur was a 12 to 40 foot long reptile that lived in the sea.

When we went fossil hunting it was very hot! We hunted in the canyons in western Kansas near Oakley. The rocks were soft chalk of the Cretaceous period.

A man named Chuck took us in the canyons to go fossil hunting. He was a nice man and he made us a nice lunch and brought it along with Doritos, my favorite kind of chip. We rode in an old fashion car and we passed by some cows and they stared at us for a long time.

In this website I will put pictures of the fossils that we found and links to more information.

This is me in the canyon. Those small holes in the picture were swallow nests.
