Great movies & shows available
After VHS, but before DVD's, there were "LaserDiscs". These were 12" silver platters that contained 1/2 to 1 hour per side (meaning that for most movies, you had to manually turn over the disc to play the 2nd side. These were available mostly from the mid-1980's to the late 1990's.
The quality was better than VHS, but not quite as good as current DVD's.
LaserDiscs had no "menus" (unlike DVD's), so basically you put it it in your player and press [PLAY]. There was only the main program and no "special features" like in current DVD's.
The discs themselves were fairly expensive, ranging from $ 29 to $ 79 ! (while most of today's DVD movies & programs range from $ 5 to $ 30 !).
I still have a Pioneer LaserDisc player that I purchased in the early 1990's (about the same time as most of the discs that I own). I am starting to sell my LaserDisc collection (and the player as well).
