Woman's Ritual
The warm river of her presence
flows into the room when she
enters the circle and offers
food to the gathering of women
A special recipe
molded with deft fingers
tempered through the wild
and tender years of mothering
We sip hot tea and listen
to the stories about mountains
and valleys Women trek
to attain insight
The crest of love,
pitch of rage
basin of despair
waste of word
evasive thought
then
Sweat
Flash
Flush
all in five minutes!
Graciously she stands
presenting to each one
a work of art that spells
heartfelt creativity
Singular rose of red velvet petals
at the golden edge of bloom
encircled with fragile tissues
crimson as the blood cycle
Revered cedar and candles
of pure white
to light a ceremonial fire
Tying the past
into a delicate parcel
sealed with silver ribbon
honouring her own transition
As she opens the door for
the next generation
to ripen and gain their entrance
into the sacred circle
of older women
waiting
Sterling as Grandmother Moon
Blood Red in a setting sun
A cycle that endures
and transforms the evening of life
in a web of ancient wisdom
serene and anchored in experience
