The tale

Being born in a small village within the Highlands with no real sense of the world was perhaps a blessing for the daughter of Stephen and Elizabeth Laroue. Just as blind and helpless as her feral cousins for several days after birth, the wee mousling was blissfully unaware of the situation into which she'd been born- the rise of the Jacobites was tumbling Scotland into turmoil against the English. And, eventually it was to this that she lost her father.

Still, as a toddler she couldn't complain and knew no words to describe what she saw or felt. A few even passed around the rumour that she was utterly mute. Far from. But as the saying goes- "Oh that wise old owl. The more he hears, the less he speaks. The more he speaks, the less he hears. Why can't we learn from that wise old owl?". Her eyes, mind and ears were open and her mouth shut.

If any questioned the silvery, lunar nature of the rodent then it was dismissed. To have silver hair at birth wasn't entirely unknown, even if those metallic eyes were far more pearly than typical gleam expected. But when the runic marks began to appear on her forearms and thighs, even the arguements that it was 'normal' were pushed aside.

By the time the rumours reached their peak, the child had reached maturity. Still not having spoken, the clothes she began to wear reflected what many of the whispers were about; although feminine, the wispy quality and alternating opaque and translucent effect of the materials perhaps revealed the nature beneath that grey-curled skull of hers.

Riddler, Hermit, Poet.

The old Celtic ways came as second nature to the coltish dame, the many envocations needed and seals used to protect both mind and soul spilling with ease off her tongue and working inside her mind. While having no physical manifestation, many who turned to the mousemaid for help could find anxiety and worry tamed by little more than words- the old version of a listener?

Now that she's arrived within the land known as Furcadia and, somehow, has just become another figure in the many.
