News

The latest news from Larkhall CC will appear here every week.

7th July 2007:

After nearly a month without a game, Larkhall were back in action today against Bristol 3rd XI. There were high hopes after giving the 3rd's somewhat of a stuffing at their ground. It was a rather warm day, but there was plenty of moisture around the outfield, but the wicket itself was also rather saturated. Our captain won the toss and elected to bat first. This was more an issue of the strength of Bristol's team, rather than a tactics issue. Bristol had a lot of young un's out there, and to make a game of it gary chose to have a bat. Things started off well, despite an early wicket (losing opening Batsman Roger meant 12 - 1) captain gary and dave saw a partnership of 47 before DP went for 43 - the eventual top score for both teams. From there, it went rather tits up. The next best partnership of only 27 for the last wicket. Larkhall all out for 112.

The Bristol scorers rather fucked up the score books, and therefore I cannot give a details analysis on proceedings, but won the match in the last over. Or in my opinion - the 42nd over. At around the 29th over mark, something seemed wrong as the bowler was bowling at the end that we opened with, seeming impossible to be on the 30th over! We disputed with the scorers during a brief break. Larkhall believed to be on the 31st over after the bowlers stepped up telling the team how many overs we had bowled. But, the scorers naturally disagreed and changed it back down 2 overs...

So after much controversy, Larkhall lost the match with Bristol having only 3 balls to spare. Or 9 balls too many, which ever way you look at it.

14th June 2007:

So another week or so goes by and so little to talk about..... well.... On Tuesday night park of the Larkhall team went up to do the pitch and have a little net. There was also a friendly at the Powsfield oval Larkhall FC vs Bearflat CC. Bearflat happened to turn up short 3 players and offered the places to the chaps having a net. Myself and Luke Rich had a little game - always good to get a little practise in! Myself and Luke were both not out in the end getting Bearflat to a semi-respectable 120 off the 20 overs, which isn't too bad when you think they could have only had 8 players!! We did lose in the end, but hey hum.

5th June 2007:

In team news, Dave Brown is not in the squad this weekend due to him having work related commitments. In his place sees the return of Andy hodgston - the hard-hitting batsman and strike bowler.

In random news, Larkhall CC business cards are on their way courtesy of VistaPrint. They will distributed to away teams once they arrive in approximately 7 days. You'll be able to find them at the bar from Saturday 16th June. Or see the Skipper/Secretary.

As always, help would be appreciated at the Powsfield Oval tonight, where you'll find dedicated team members preparing the wicket from approximately 5pm. Naturally, I would help, however, I have to work until 5.30, but also, I'm a lazy ****.

More from me in the next couple of days.

Over and Out.

4th June 2007:

Terribly sorry that I have missed out on a few weeks, but hey, not alot has been going on in Larkhall CC land.

After Larkhalls 4th win on the trot, they currently stand 2nd in the league! Currently in a promotion position. Up the Larkers!!!

I have bought an official mug for "mug of the week" and am currently attempting to fix on a treated wooden stand to make it look pretty... Not that I am looking to glamourise obtaining the Mug award, but mearly out of boredom.

In random team news, Ted, Scal, Ade and myself are going up to Hampset to have a net tomorrow if anyone else would like to attend? Except you Lanning! Anyway, let me know when you get an MoT on your old motor.

Thats all for now - i'll post some more random bollocks here when I can be arsed next.

12th May 2007:

Whitchurch 2nd XI vs Larkhall CC was called off today due to poor weather. I actually think they were rather scared...

In team news, Larkhall Captain Gary Bartlett will be back in the side next week after a career threatening injury. Still sporting a plastic wrist support, he will be resuming his opening position spot next week at the Powesfield Oval.

I have been informed that the Powsfield oval is in need of plenty of work this week, so those of you that are not as useless are our current skipper - please give a helping hand! This (I have been told) will result in a personal thank you from Gary Bartlett and a mention on this site!!! The only other way this could happen is by being mug/player of the week!

We're also on the scout for someone to volunteer to make the sarnies. Old one arm will be doing the cakes. And if you can do the sarnies let the skipper know and he says you wont have to do it again for a whole year... thats quite an offer!

That's it for now. Please leave a message in the guestbook!
