The First Self Propelled Car

                                  The very first car (self-propelled) was built in 1769. A french military engineer named Nicholas Cugnot designed it as a steam powered road vehicle. The first car only had three wheels. The engine was in front along with  the boiler. It was used by the french army to move cannons but it was too heavy and slow so it really wasn't of much use.


Karl Benz: Inventor of the First Modern Car

                                  Karl Benz invented the first modern automobile. He first developed a four-stroke internal combusition engine. He attached it to a three-wheeled carrage and thats how the first modern automobile was born.

Charles and Frank Duryea

      Charles and Frank Duryea made the first car in America. They were bicycle makers. They saw a gasoline engine and thought to themselves that a carriage with an engine could be made. They introduced the first car to Springfield by 1887.
