Saying Goodbye

On Sunday, March 25, 2007, at approximately 4:30 p.m. my beloved, my soulmate, my heart, died in my arms, apparantly of a heart attack.  He would have been 11 years old on July 11th.  Mulder suffered from a variety of health problems, and had throughout his life.  Although my heart is broken and tears are frequent, I can take heart at one thing.  He died in my arms, not alone.  He had just done one of his favorite things, riding on my shoulders in the car and bouncing and chasing around in the beautiful, green grass.  I wanted to share him with my cyber friends, so I'm developing this page.  It is still in progress, but even if no one manages to read it to the end, this will stand as a tribute to my beloved Sir Gizfuri Mulder of Aslin.

I Come Into the World

I was born very, very early on July 11, 1996.  I was one of three boys and one tiny sister.  Mama was assisted by her people and one of their friends.  Even though it's hard to tell, we think that I'm the one laying on my side, on the right.  Our sister is the smallest one, second from the left.  Our birth Mama was Menly Aslin, we were her first litter.  She was not a happy pup, because she gained 6 pounds before we were born!  When you only weigh 5 pounds to begin with, that makes for a miserable summer.

My adopted Mama got to see and hold me and my sibs before we were even 24 hours old!  She used to take care of our birth Mama when her people went out of town.  She fell in love with Mama Menly and couldn't wait to adopt one of us!

Mama came to take care of Mama Menly and us when we were about 2 weeks old.  We had just gotten our eyes opened.  Mama was sitting next to our bed, trying to decide which one of us she wanted to adopt, since she was going to get the pick of the litter.  Well, I couldn't wait for her to make up her mind!  So, I wiggled out of bed, toddled over next to her, rolled over on my back, and started chewing on her T-shirt!  Mama knew right then and there that we were going to be together!

Coming to My New Home

I came home with my adopted Mama when I was eight weeks old.  My first bed was a clothes basket lined with towels.  I slept with my "Mama Bear", who was almost the color of my Mama Menly.  She was my security, and when I got really scared, I would put my head between her paws, and she would comfort me!   Sometimes my Mama would take me to work with her, and I'd snooze happily in my bed.  Then about every hour, we would go for a walk.  It was a looooooong walk, all the way around our department.  Sometimes people would see me for the first time and not know what I was.  Can you believe it?  One person thought I was a toy, and another person thought I was a guinea pig!  Mama got insulted, but it was funny, too!

When I was very little, I slept in the basket at night, too.  Mama was afraid she would squish me if I slept in her bed with her!  I was very smart even then, though.  I figured out really quick that when her alarm clock rang, it was "play time"!  If Mama didn't pick me up right away, I would stand up on the side of my bed and bark and bark until she picked me up!  Then we would play and wrestle on the big, big bed, and we would have lots and lots of fun!  I made Mama laugh a lot, and she made me a happy puppy every morning.

How I Got My Name

Before I was born, my Mama knew my name would be Mulder.  That was because one of her favorite TV characters was "Fox Mulder" on X-Files.  She was reading about Pomeranians and they said we look like little foxes.  So figuring out part of my name was easy.  But she wanted a real special name, since I'm a real special dog.  So, when she registered me she decided to use all of the little spaces on the registration form.  What to do?  Well, my birth Mama's name is Menly Aslin and my birth Papa's name is Sir Alfred Valentine.  So of course I had to be a Sir, just like Papa.  And my adopted Mama liked the name Aslin.  But we still had some spaces to fill in.  Well, I sort of reminded Mama of Gizmo from Gremlins (he was cute) and a Furball.  So she smooshed Gizmo and Furball together and came up with Gizfuri.  So there was my whole name...

Sir Gizfuri Mulder of Aslin!

It wasn't all fun and games at home, though!  I got a job even when I was a little guy.  It was very important, and I took my job very seriously.  My job was to redistribute all of the sticks in the yard!  And, believe me, with 5 trees in our yard then, there were a whole lot of sticks!  But I did a really good job, and made sure all the sticks were moved around before I went inside at night!

My Fellow Canine at Home

When I came to my new home, my Mama's Grandma had a very special dog, too.  Her name was Teddy Bear (we just called her Teddy, though).  She didn't mind me being around, and would let me sleep beside her a lot.  She died whe I was about 6 and I missed her soooooo much.  Even though she used to try to wrestle with me and I got banged up... a lot.  Sometimes my Grandma would call my Mama to come home from work because I had to go to the vet to get checked out.  But, when I got older, I learned how to dodge when Teddy got too silly!

Rainbow Bridge

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge. When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....
