My name is Laurence Moyer (also known to some as Laurie) and I have been collecting bottle caps for about 7 years or so (around 1997). At this time I only collect caps from alcohol based products, such as beer, mix drinks, coolers, alcoholic hard ciders and such. I do not collect caps from carbonated drinks (soda pop), juice, water or energy drinks. The caps can either be unused or used as long as in reasonable condition. I do collect series caps as well as caps with different underside writing (leading some to term me a "bottom feeder").
I have recently changed my storage method for the collection. They are now on "beer flats", the bottoms of the cardboard flats that a 24 pack of beer cans come on. Caps are sorted by brewery within countries. The flats are stacked together by country or geographic region and held together by elastics. A couple of photos of my crown cap room are shown on the site. The collection is recorded in a spreadsheet and a cap cannot go into the collection until it is identified by brewery and country.
Over the years I have traded caps with hundreds of collectors throughout the world- isn't the internet great for collectors? I prefer to trade caps by viewing scans/photos from other collectors. This avoids accumulating massive quantities of duplicates from other countries.
I have been a member of the Crowncap Collectors Society International (CCSI), which I recommend to other collectors. I have attending the annual Crownvention in Pennsylvania since 1999 and look forward to the event every April. In 2001 I founded Crownvention North, which is held annually in Brockville, Ontario. This is an opportunity for Canadian cap collectors (and anyone else interested) to get together to exchange caps and socialize. In addition to collecting bottle caps, I also collect baseball caps with advertising for breweries and beer. In the past I have made trade arrangements with new collectors to trade Canadian bottle caps for foreign baseball caps. This developed when some of the collectors that contacted me regarding trading had little to offer me that I needed. Since I wanted them to be able to add some nice Canadian bottle caps to their collections, I came up with this concept.
Enjoy the site, I hope to update it frequently. It would be nice to be able to show my complete collection but that may not be possible. As of the end of December 2003 I had over 17,000 caps in my collection.
