A little about us .......... Dedication is who we are & what we do

Steve & I are not only very close & dedicated to each other, but to our dogs too. It has been a long journey with our dogs over the years & without our own close relationship & friendship & the ability to dedicate time both to each other & the dogs as individuals, it may have turned out completely different to who we are as Breeders & exhibitors today. 

We enjoy having our dogs around us & if they are able to be shown then that is a bonus! We are not a 'kennel', we have most of our dogs live in the house with us .  Infact - its more their home than ours!!  We do not breed from or show all of our dogs.  We have bought or rescued dogs that have health problems who are then neutered to prevent these problems being passed on. 

We have owned & shown Saint Bernards for a few years, & although we have learned alot on our journey, we  believe that no one person can know all there is to know about the breed.  There is so much to learn, especially with the health problems that our breed suffers & new research for these problems being found.  If we are unable to answer your query, then we certainly will know someone that can!

CONTRARY TO THE BREED NAME.... SAINTS THEY A'INT!!

In 2008 we applied & were delighted to be accepted as Kennel Club Associate Members. Kathy is 'qualified' to judge both St Bernards & Bullmastiffs at Open Show level which includes CH Shows without tickets & she is currently listed on many of the breed clubs judging lists. Kathy has also passed Breed Judging Symposiums for both breeds & have attended several St Bernard  & Bullmastiff Breed seminars.   

We love showing our dogs, and because we enjoyed it so much, we applied to the Kennel Club for our own affix in 2002 & 'LANEBERN' was born. We have enjoyed much success with Bella  both in the UK & Ireland. We now campaign our dogs  both in the UK & Ireland. Danny, Angel,  Rooney , Tia, & Cody who by the time he reached 7 months old, had done very well with winning his classes at most shows, winning a Puppy Group, 2 x PG3 & a stakes class. Codys debut at the Irish Munster Circuit in 2005 was very successful too.... He won 3 BEST PUPPY IN BREEDS IN A ROW & A RESERVE GREEN STAR! We are VERY PROUD of all their wins, and list them whether they come 1st or last. I hope you enjoy looking at their pages.

**We have great pleasure in introducing Rooney who has joined us from the Abbotsbury kennels. Rooneys first show was on Saturday 10th February at the Isle of Ely Canine Society show & we were absolutely delighted that he won Not only Best Puppy in Breed, but also the Puppy Working Group Followed by BEST PUPPY IN SHOW,Then we attended his 2ND show on Saturday 17th February 2007 which was National Working & Pastoral Breeds & he won Res BEST PUPPY IN SHOW ALL AT just 7 months old!!**

Tia has recently joined us in the show ring too. She is the daughter of Danny & Amber from our last litter in 2006. She has done very well in the showring along with her sister 'Queenie'. 

Since making her Debut Tia has not only won a few Best Bitch Puppy in Breeds, but also  a few Reserve Best Puppy in Shows!! We hope that she continues to enjoy her days out with us! 

Our 2 new stars for the future are our own bred Simone & Pumba who were produced by using some of the best American, UK & European bloodlines. Since making her debut into the ring in January 2008 Simone has massed 2 x PG1, 1 x PG2, 1 x PG4, Best of Breed, Best Puppy in Show at  Club Open Show & a Reserve Best Puppy in show at a General Championship Show! Simone has also won a Res CC & gained her Junior Warrant title by the time she was 16months.

We have been blessed with some wonderfull puppies since we first began our journey into showing and these lovely dogs are currently enjoying VERY successful show careers.

Kathy has also been joined in the ring with our son Jonathan, who also handles the dogs in Junior Handling classes with great success. He has also been granted his own affix 'Karmonbel' which we hope, with our help & guidance, will be the beginning of a great future for him in a line of quality breeding.

**CODY now has 2 Challenge Certificates & 3 Res CC** (3 CC's required to become a UK Champion!)

BELLA & CODY  have both received Major GREEN STARS (the Irish equivalent to our C C's). Bella won hers at the prestigious Munster Circuit in Ireland 2004 & Cody received his  first Green Star at the Irish St Patricks Day International CH Show in March 2006 & his 2nd at Tralee in August 2006.

Since then, the IKC  have changed the ruling for awarding dogs their Irish Champion Title.  A dog now has to receive 7 Green Stars in  order to claim an Irish CH Title - Bella has the equivalent of 3 Green stars under the   'new system'  'CODY has since achieved 2 more green stars in 2008 & now  has 5 Green Stars & requires just 2 more to gain his Ir CH  title!

This is the first step towards their IRISH CHAMPION TITLES.

Both dogs have achieved further Green stars  &/or CC's to add to their growing collection of awards both in the UK & Ireland!!

Our dogs live in our home and are our Pets & companions more than anything else. They are raised with all the usual noises such as, people visiting, telephones, hoovers, all modern appliances etc, which helps when it comes to settling puppies into their new homes. They are also brought up with Cats and taught that they are not 'toys' & must be respected!

Socialising & manners are also very important, (not just to the breed but to us too as a large unruly dog is not a pleasure but a pain!!) and again we encourage people to visit us & we also like to take puppies on various trips around different towns/markets from a young age, not to mention very important 'social' trips to the vets to allow the dogs to become well socialised 'Good citizens'.

Kathy has trained in & Instructed obedience classes with our local training club. She has also attended an instructors workshop with a prestigious company associated with Obedience.
During this course they had substantial coverage on Socialising, Nutrition & training & it also involved 'hands on' experience with dogs of all shapes & sizes & with people that were having problems with their dogs.

To protect our Breed & our puppies, ALL registrations will be Endorsed. This means that there will be certain restrictions when it comes to any expectations you may have when thinking about breeding from your dog. We are very cautious when allowing Export of our dogs to other countries, & there may be certain circumstances or occassions that we will not allow Export, however, please contact us to discuss your individual requirements regarding Export out of the UK.

We  cannot  guarantee the 'show potential' of any puppy regardless of what Champions are in his/her parentage. The lovely 8 week old puppy oozing showmanship may not 'make the grade' when he/she is 5months old. Just because a puppy has Champion parents does not mean that he/she will become one too & always take care when choosing your puppy.

All puppies sold from us are sold as pets. Saint puppies change very quickly and what might seem a promising 8 week old, may never come to anything at all in the show ring, although we can all dream of breeding/owning a Champion one day!

Unfortunately, Saint Bernards are not without their health problems & potential owners should be aware of them. Hip Dysplasia, Ectropian and Entropian (Turning in & turning out of the eye lids) Epilepsy, Dilated Cardiomyopathy (DCM - Heart Condition) and gastric torsion (bloat) are the more known, talked about conditions.

There are several Breed Clubs in the UK, that can all offer advice on the Breed. Some of these people have had great success in the ring & have substantial breed knowledge. You would be wise to checkout a show or two before purchasing a puppy of this breed, just to understand what is involved IF you are looking to show your puppy & also gain some knowledge as to just how big these cute puppies can get as adolescents & adults!

Please take GREAT care before making your decision to buy a Saint Bernard, the little cute puppy will grow at an amazing speed, eat alot more than the average size dog, as well as make twice the amount of mess! It's not fair on them or you if you suddenly find yourself with a dog thats too big for the house, your food budget & your life!
