Tia is a 3rd freshener (kidded March 11th, 2009). The below pix were taken on May 9th, 2009. Notice her udder floor is level, her teats are well placed (easy to get to for milking), a nicely attached fore udder, and she has strong udder attachment all around. She is a "hand milkers" dream!!! ANYONE can milk Tia, my son, Michael, milked her for me when he was 7 years old! Tia is a pleasure to milk - her milk is sweet and creamy, and BONUS she milks out in 3 minutes tops per milking!
Fast milk on the hoof! She is the best doe on our farm, and so far we have retained all of Tia's doelings that have ever been born here, Land of Havilah ShekinahGlory and Land of Havilah DiamondGirl, for our herd hoping for another Tia!! Shekinah is freshening for the first time this year (May 21st, 2009 due date), so we shall see!! We are firm believers in drinking raw milk, I feel it is the best way for my family to get the many vitamins, minerals, beneficial bacteria, and enzymes that are naturally present in milk. See the "Reference Page" for udder shots of Tia's relatives.)
Tia looks posty in the above pic - I want to stress to you the she IS NOT. She was tied to the clothesline post and she kept going around and around. She was starting to move again - I took a quick pic and called it good. :D What can I say?!
Shortly after I took this pic, she gave me 3/4 of a gallon of milk for the morning milking (plus she held back some for her kids) - approximately 12 hours of milk.
Sonya is a first freshener this year (kidded April 29th, 2008). She had triplets, I put all the babies up in their own stall away from the mommies overnight. These pix are of Sonya with a little less than 12 hours of milk. These pix were taken on May 30th, when Sonya was 4 weeks fresh. Notice her strong medial, and the symmetry of the udder halves, she has good attachment, teat placement is an improvement over her dam "Dream" - they should get longer as I her. He dam "Dream" gives 1 1/2 gallons a day, Sonya seems to have the makings of that kind of production - look at that capacity! It's so exciting to see how the does I breed mature, Sonya is really coming along nicely!! She feeds her triplets, plus gives us some - awesome for a first freshener!!
See the "Reference Page" for udder shots of Sonya's relatives.)
Shekinah's udder came in very nicely! I'm very impressed with the rear udder height, and she has very good attachment all around. I love the medial, and the floor of the udder. I wish the teats were in a bit more, but Sonya (Shekinah's half sister) started this way and improved during her lactation last year. Shekinah's teats are, as I had hoped, like Tia's in that they are easy to milk and the orifice is big and Shekinah is quick to milk out. The udder pix taken on the milkstand always appear to tip left in the udder, this is a optical illusion, as I have to squeeze between a bureau and the end of the milk stand, and the wall is very close - so the fault is mine.
There is a side udder shot, but I apologize that it is not a very good one. I'll try to get a better one soon where she is standing correctly, she moved her far leg JUST as I snapped the pic! ugh! She has a very nice fore udder attachment, and the udder rounds nicely behind her back legs.
