L&A Farm
Hi, we are L&A Farm. We are a new family to the goat show and breeding scene. We started last year with one child showing and two boer does--one commercial and one registered. We are now up to a total of㺕 goats, most of which are registered. We started our expansion with a less popular breed, the Nigerian Dwarf. These miniature milking does are precious and love attention. And being that they take up little space, they are wonderful for both pets and showing. Into the summer of 2007, we decided to expand our boer herd. Over the past year and half we have bought, sold, and bred does to improve the quality of our herd. Most of our show goats have amazing bloodlines, and we currently have traditionals, reds, and paints. And now we even have a spotted one that one of our commercial does gave birth to. This past show season, we had 3 of our family's kids and one foreign exchange student showing in 4-H. Half of the does that we brought with us to the state show placed in the top of their classes. We were so proud of the progress that we are making and the success of the kids.
We are not expert goat breeders. But we have always had a least one pet goat on our property. Many of these pet goats were even raised in the house while on the bottle. But as we've learned, raising a pet goat is totally different from raising a quality, show-worthy animal. And to this day, we are still learning, but we love acquiring new information to help us keep our animals healthy and at the top of their game. We aren't doing this just to make money, or win giant ribbons and plaques. Sure, those things are nice, but our main reason for showing and raising goats is because we love them, and we enjoy working together as a family with them. We just experience our first "kidding season," and I tell you, it was an EXPERIENCE! But with the help of our friends at Jubilee Family Farm, we made it through just fine. By now, I think we owe our lives to Mrs. Susan and Ms. Julie!
We live in Loranger, Louisiana, on about 5 acres of family land. To say we love animals would be an understatement. In addition to the goats, our family has a wide array of dogs, horses, and other farm animals. We often say that the animals run the place, and we're just the employees responsible for keeping them healthy and happy! The name L&A Farm represents the two main households that manage our herd. The L stands for Lyons and the A for Allshouse.
Of course, our website is a work in progress. If you have time, we would love for you to sign our guestbook. Thank you for viewing our site, and have a wonderful day.
