Whippet Racing Club.

The Lancashire Pedigree Whippet Racing Club was set up in 2005 by a group of friends who wanted to create a racing club where owners of Kennel Club registered whippets could come along and race their dogs in a safe friendly atmosphere.

The club started it's life in Skelmeresdale but very soon afterwards moved to its present location of Littleborough sports ground which is located behind Hollingwoorth Lake Littleborough. (Directions ~ http://www.freewebs.com/lancashirepedigreewrc/directions.htm  )

set in a beautyfull valley surrounded by hills, a lake and some of the best scenery you could ever ask for.

everyone who visits the club comments on what a fantastic location it is set in.

as well as having such a good venue ground wise we are also very lucky in that we have toilets and a liscenced club house on site selling beer at a very resonable price so after racing most weeks members retire to the club house for a drink and to discuss the days racing and anything else doggy.

The club runs weekly race meetings every Sunday from March~October with points being awarded each week that count towards the yearly points totals with trophys being awarded to the top 10 whippets for that year.

on top of that the club also runs regular trophy meetings when as well as the points, trophys are available for the winning dogs.

To compete at the Lancashire Whippets must be Kennel Club Registered and have a 5 generation pedigree (if you only have a 3 generation pedigree don't worry the clubs secretary will be able to help you obtain a 5 Generation one.)

Whippets must weight between 14 & 32lb dogs must not be over 21" at the shoulder Bitch's must not be over 20" at the shoulder

The Lancashire PWRC aims are to encourage & promote responsible dog ownership in the Lancashire/Yorkshire & Mersyside areas and to promote whippet racing as a family sport.

Races are held over various distances ranging from 50yds up to 200yds in a straight line and 240yds around a bend, the club also operates a hcp system which ensures all dogs regardless of ability have a chance to win races.
