The Clubs History
The Lakeland and District Cat Club
was founded in October of 1992, by a group of
people interested in the welfare, showing & breeding of pedigree
& household pets.
The founders Joy & Ron
Forrest guided the club in its early years with the
following original club members:-
Sheila Mackereth, Ian
& Cath Mckenna, Angel Orvis, Chris Troughton & Linda
Troughton.
Sadly Ron passed away in
1997 and is sadly missed by
many.
Joy is still a member and still keeps an
interest in the activities of the club.
Our first show was a
household pet show at Kendal Rugby Club. It was
held on the 18th of June 1994.
The show manager
was Mr A Cooksey, and it was a huge success. Many
thanks Alan. :)
In 1995 the
club hit a brick wall, as affiliation to the GCCF
was becoming time consuming, however, after fresh input from a
revitalised committee, the club was granted affiliation to the
GCCF in 1997.
We were now
positioned to go for its goal.
Mr Ed Irving & Mr Mike
Kavanagh agreed to fund-raise to support loss-running
exemption & sanction shows.
In 1998
Mrs Pat Parrish was asked to be the club's show
manager and to guide & train others in this role.
Three
exemption shows at Kendal Rugby Club gave the club
an excellent rapport with the exhibitors.
In the Year
2000 the club gained sanction show status. We had
to move to a bigger place, Carnforth High School.
The feed back from the exhibitors was very impressive.
We had our first
championship show in 2004 and all thanks to Pat
& Mike, Ed & Mike and of course the management team for a
very successful day.
After our 1st championship show we had to move
venue again to Kendal Leisure Centre.
After the 2006 show, Pat
Parrish stood down as Show Manager leaving the reins in the
capable hands of Edward Irving and Michael
Kavanagh.
APPLICATION FOR MEMBERSHIP IS OPEN TO ALL CAT LOVERS.
