About La Fumi
Fumie Akiya de Mena 'La Fumi' started her study of Flamenco at Estudio Kojima in Tokyo, Japan in 1992 with a legendary dancer, Shoji Kojima and Michiko Takano.
Since she moved to England in 1995, has extended her training in Flamenco with the greatest artists such as Mercedes Ruiz, Rafaela Carrasco, Javier Latorre, Manuel Linan, Soraya Cravijo, La Chiqui de Jerez, Angelita Gomez, Alicia Marquez and Pilar Ogalla to name but a few in both London and Jerez de la Frontera, Spain.
She is married to jerezana (Jerez born), a mother to two daughters, Zaira and Yaiza also frequently returns to the heart of Flamenco and her 2nd hometown, Jerez to learn the depth of Flamenco.
La Fumi teaches regularly in North, North West and West London and performs in the pena, theatres, restaurants, events and on the television.
She has her own Flamenco Dance Company, Taconeo Grupo Flamenco performs all over England and Spain.
La Fumi is a runner-up in the final of the 1st London Flamenco Dance Competition 2007.
