This is the Laurel Scroll I did for Mistress Genevieve La Rousse. It is on a drum head that I prepared by sanding and then using pumice stone.

I used a combination of modern gouache for the scroll work and flowers and period pigments for the inner picture. I used gold leaf and oak gall ink I made myself. I had such issues with the gold leaf. It took several tries to get the mordant right. This is FL so maybe it was too humid one day not and enough the next. I learned a lot about how fussy gold leaf and pigments can be.
The scroll is based on several manuscripts that Mistress Genevieve liked.

I am happy to say she was please with the finished producted.
