1a. Introduction

Many people have trouble beating all 12 paramedic missions. Some can’t even make it passed the seventh mission. This FAQ should help you to complete all 12 of the paramedic missions, if you haven’t already. The paramedic missions are the hardest side missions of the game, do to the fact that you have to drive an ambulance to complete them. I’ll try to help you out the best I can with this FAQ. Now that the introduction is complete, it is time to learn what a paramedic mission is.

2a. What is Paramedic Mission?

For those who don’t have the game yet, a paramedic mission is one of the side missions of Grand Theft Auto 3. As I said above, it is probably the hardest side mission of the game. The objective of the paramedic mission is to pick up the indicated pedestrians and bring them back to the hospital. This consists of 12 levels, that obviously get harder as they go on. If you fail the paramedic mission, you must start all over from level 1. It is also a timed mission. You can get more time by picking up the indicated pedestrians and dropping them off at the hospital. As the levels get higher, the rewarded time you get for picking up and dropping off the pedestrians decreases. Eventually, you will only receive extra time for picking them up, not dropping them off.

2b. How do I do a Paramedic Mission?

In order to do a paramedic mission, you will need to be in an ambulance. When you are in an ambulance press R3. R3 will trigger the paramedic mission to start. On the radar you will see a green dot. Green dots represent the pedestrians that you need to pick up. When you get to the location where the indicated pedestrian is, you’ll now who the indicated pedestrian is by the big blue arrow over there head. Stop the ambulance and pick up the pedestrian. After you pick up the pedestrian, a purple dot will appear on your radar. The purple dot represents the hospital. The hospital is where you have to drop off the pedestrians that you pick up. When you get to the hospital, you’ll see an area that has a blue, shaded, circular thing. Park in that area and the pedestrian will get out. Then the whole thing starts over, but now it’s a little harder.

2c. Where should I do the Paramedic Missions?

The paramedic missions should be the first thing that you do. If you just stated the game, then you should do them in Portland before the Mafia hates you. If you try to do the paramedic missions in Portland while the Mafia hates you, your ambulance will probably be blown up every time you try to pick up a pedestrian in Saint Marks (Mafia territory). If the Mafia already hates, then I recommend doing the paramedic missions on Staunton Island. The only bad thing about Staunton Island is that you have to watch out for the Cartel. You really don’t have to worry about the Yardies because most of them only carry bats. Shoreside Vale is not a good place to do the paramedic missions because of the split and there is only two ways to get to each side safely. This is just my opinion, it is your decision to make on where you want to do the paramedic missions.

2d. Why do the Paramedic Missions?

By doing the paramedic missions, you receive various rewards for completing certain tasks during the paramedic missions. The rewards you receive are as follows.
You receive a health refill at every hideout for saving 35 people.
You receive an adrenaline pill at every hideout for saving 70 people.
You are able to run forever without getting tired if you complete level 12 of the paramedic missions.
Doing all 12 of the paramedic missions is also required for completing the game, 100%.

3a. The Ambulance

The ambulance is a top heavy vehicle, which can tip over very easily. It can hold a maximum of four people, including the GTA3 Guy. In the next two sections, I’ll explain how to drive the ambulance carefully.

3b. Turning the Ambulance

Here, I’ll explain the two different kinds of turning. One type you’ll use for making sharp turns and the other you’ll use for changing lanes. I’ll start with the turning method you’ll use for lane changing.

While driving the ambulance down the road, you’re guaranteed to see another vehicle in your way. The only thing you can do is change lanes. To prevent the ambulance from tipping over while changing lanes. Just continue to hold down X and tap in the direction that you want to go. Say your driving down the right side of the road and there is a car in front of you. You’d continue to hold X, while you tap left to get into the left lane. After you pass the car, move back into the right lane before oncoming traffic smashes into you. Never hold in the direction you want to go. Doing so at a fast enough speed will throw the ambulance off balance and it will begin to tip.

While driving the ambulance, you’ll eventually come to an intersection where you will need to turn right. Before you come to a sharp turn in an ambulance, let go of X and hold square and R1 to almost bring the ambulance to a stop. The ambulance should now barely be moving. Before the ambulance stops, hold in the direction that you want to go and repeatedly tap X until you are 3/4 done with the turn. After you have completed 3/4 of the turn, you may hold X to finish the turn. Say you are coming up to an intersection and want to turn right. You’d first hold square and R1 to slow down the ambulance. When the ambulance is going slow enough, hold right and tap X until you are 3/4 done with the turn. After you have completed 3/4 of the turn, you may hold X and complete the turn. Practice these two types of turning. You will need to master turning the ambulance to prevent it from tipping over during a paramedic mission.

3c. Recovering

Here, I will tell you how to recover from almost tipping over the ambulance. While driving the ambulance you may make a mistake or maybe another vehicle will crash into you causing your ambulance to begin to tip. The first thing you’d probably think is hold in the opposite direction the ambulance is tipping. Do not do that. Doing so will cause the ambulance’s weight to be thrown to the other side, giving you twice as much of a problem as before. If you see the ambulance begin to tip, let go of every button and slowly tap in the opposite direction the ambulance is tipping until it is not tipping anymore. Once the ambulance has regained its balance, continue to drive as you were before.

3d. Bad Ideas while Driving the Ambulance

Here is a list of bad ideas to try while driving the ambulance...
1) Holding a directional button while changing lanes.
2) Holding X while turning.
3) Power sliding around turns.
4) Approaching a turn at a high speed.
5) Recovering from a slight tip by holding a directional button.
6) Taking short cuts off the roads.
7) Causing the ambulance to become airborne.
8) Crashing into other vehicles.
9) Running over pedestrians.
10) Changing the view.
11) Doing drive-by shootings at the pedestrians.
12) Exiting the Ambulance.

4a. Areas to Avoid

Here, I’ll explain the areas that should be avoided while doing the paramedic missions. You should avoid certain gang areas because they will shoot at the ambulance and blow it up. The gang areas you should watch out for most are the Cartel, Mafia, and Triad gang areas. The Yakuza, Diablo, South Side Hood, and Yardie areas don’t pose too much threat because they ether don’t attack you, or rarely ever have guns to shoot at you with. When stopping in a gang area you should be careful. If you stop the ambulance in a gang area, a gang member might pull you out of the car. If you have to pick up a pedestrian in a gang area, use L2 and R2 to look behind you to see if a gang member is approaching. Don’t forget to also check the front and sides of the ambulance for approaching gang members. If you have just started the game, then you don’t have to worry about any gangs attacking or pulling you out of the ambulance.

You should also avoid going off the road. Going off the road will make the ambulance tip easier. If you have to pick up a pedestrian that is not waiting for you at the road side, then travel off road with extreme caution. Stick to the road as much as possible.

4b. Pick up Strategy

Do to the fact that the ambulance mission is timed, you’ll have to move quickly. Here, I’ll explain the order that you should pick up the pedestrians, how to pick them up, and how to drop them off.

You should pick up the pedestrians that are the farthest away from the hospital first. Since you are allowed to pick up 3 pedestrians at a time, you should pick up the pedestrian that is farthest from the hospital and then pick up 2 more on your way back to the hospital. Some pedestrians wait close to each other. If you see 2 pedestrians waiting close to each other, you should pick them both up and then pick up one more on your way back to the hospital.

To pick up the indicated pedestrian, stop close to them using both square and R1. Don’t stop too close to them or you may end up running them over. After the ambulance has stopped, the indicated pedestrian will approach the ambulance. As soon as the pedestrian opens the door to the ambulance, it is safe to go to the next pedestrian or hospital. If the ambulance no longer has doors, wait for the indicated pedestrian to begin to enter the ambulance before you start to go to the next pedestrian or hospital. If you go to soon the pedestrian will fall out of the ambulance, which will waste time.

To drop off the pedestrians that you have picked up, stop in the blue beam of light at the hospital. The pedestrians will get out of the ambulance and you will hear a “ding” noise that indicates the pedestrians have been dropped off. If you only have 1 pedestrian with you to drop off then you will only hear one “ding” noise. If you have more than one pedestrian with you at the time, you will hear more than one “ding” noise. After the one or two “ding” noises, depending one how many pedestrians you’re dropping off, it is then safe to run over the pedestrians you have just dropped off. The purpose of running over the pedestrians is to exit the hospital faster, not to just kill them for the fun of it.

5a. Cheating to Win

Hopefully it won’t come down to this, but if you’re really desperate and need to beat paramedic mission 12, then here is a couple of cheats to help you out...
Refill Health- Do this code to repair the ambulance when damaged.
Better Handling- This code will help prevent the ambulance from tipping over.
Tank Cheat- Use this code many times to get rid of all the traffic on the streets.
Lower Wanted Level- If the cops are after you, use this code to get them off your tail.
If you do not know these codes, you can find them on the KYAE website at http://www.kyae.idz.net
