A vision for the Kupu Kupu café began several years ago, but the details only became clear to me this year, in 2007. I love to cook for family and friends and wondered at the possibility of combining that with my interest in people and their stories. In the 90’s I spent some time living in Indonesia and I learnt a little of the language. The word "kupu kupu", which means "butterfly", always sounded so soft and gentle. I had already decided I was going to open a café with a difference. Serving only fair-traded coffee, and offering comfortable couches as well as tables and chairs, so groups of people could come in and sit, talk and relax while enjoying the menu, I wished to provide a venue where people could really connect with each other, and I could connect with them, hence the “coffee, tea and empathy“ . Who doesn’t need a little empathy from time to time?
The menu is divided into a Winter and Summer menu. The winter menu comprising curries, savoury pastries, Arancini ( Sicilian rice balls), soup, tandoori chicken pizza, slices, home made sticky date pudding with butterscotch sauce, cold drinks, fair-trade coffee, hot chocolate, Chai Latte, and, while the Summer menu is still being developed, it will offer salads, cheese and fresh fruit platters, Tandoori chicken, salad wraps and more.
This is an exciting and innovative café for the North Eastern part of Adelaide, combining simple but tasty food, with a vibrant and warm atmosphere.
