Never Haves

They?ve never pumped a pump before
They?ve never known a well
They?ve never stood by flooded creaks and watched the
water swell

They?ve never run in country woods
They?ve never fed a pig
They?ve never thrown a chicken feed like I did as a
kid

They?ve never had to scale their fish
They?ve never seen an orchard
They?ve never sweated in a garden
?til their feet felt tortured

But one thing that they never have
Of which I?m proud and glad
They?ve never felt the loneliness of
life without a Dad

Costs of Cares

Does it cost much to care a little?
To give a moment of your time?
To give a dollar or dime?
To give the poor a coin you find?

You do not have to whine or whittle
There is no need to change your plans
There is no test you must withstand
There is no sacrifice too grand

If you are strong and they are brittle
Just be the water for their thirst
Just be the sun that warms them first
Just be the better for their worse

Does it cost much to care a little?
It does inspire a higher call
It does require something small
It does slow our pride to a crawl

Pigs

Pigs
Pump you full of slop
Pull you down in the mud
Wallow with you
And then
Turn around and
Call you
Dirty!

Tonight and Battle

Tonight we meet for battle
Tomorrow's time for war
Ships load in the harbor
Tomorrow sails will soar

Generals come to form the plan
Captains see them through
Barking out their orders as they
Rally forth the crew

We wait in the darkness now
The waters whisper peace
Tomorrow we will be the storm
The men who fight like beasts

DEAD CAT

This is my life
I was born a poor brat who loved his pet cat
Once the Tabby died, I cried
I laid my head on my mother's lap
She smiled and sighed
Letting me know that life comes and goes
And I suppose
When I think about my pet Tabby
I love her still

DC Metro

Metro
Over crowded
Orange line was late today
Train cars overflowed with people
We were packed like sardines
Man, I'm glad that's
Over
