This site is dedicated to the music and culture of the Maguindanaons of Southern Philippines particularly the Palabunibunyan.
The kulintang music tradition as described on this site is based on practices in a village in the municipality of Sultan Kudarat, Maguindanao called Simuay (Sim-way).
Simuay is geographically located on the eastern shore of Illana Bay with a population of about 400 families. Majority are related by blood and profess Islam. The main source of living is fishing and farming.
The people of Simuay belongs to the indigeneous people called Maguindanaons that inhabit the coastal towns of Sultan Kudarat, Maguindanao. The local dialect is also called Maguindanaon.
Playing the kulintang or any other instrument of the Palabunibunyan is mainly learned by kids through listening, watching and observation of their elders.
