Jorge Rafael De Posada was born on August 17,1971 in Santurce, Puerto Rico.
Jorge Posada loved sports as a child, and when he was in high school he took a particular liking to baseball. He always had a gift for playing baseball and was Player of the Year in 1988-1989 season. Jorge graduated High School and went to Calhoun Community College in Alabama. Jorge got his associates degree while playing baseball for his college team. In 1990, he was voted best hitter. In 1991 he became co-captain of his college team, while at the same time being selcted to the All-Conference team. Also in '91, he was drafted by the New York Yankees and was put on a farmhouse team, the Oneonta Yankees.He stayed on this farmhouse team until 1995. His Major League debut was on September 4, 1995. In 2000, he was made the catcher for the New York Yankees. He hasn't changed positions or teams since.
On January 21, 2000, Jorge married Laura Posada, an attorney from Puerto Rico. They have two children, Jorge Jr. and Paulina. Jorge Jr. is 5 years old, and Paulina is 3 years old. Jorge Jr. has been diagnosed with Craniosynostosis. He has endured many surgeries to fix this problem. As a result of Jorge Jr.’s condition, the Posada family created the Jorge Posada Foundation to provide financial assistance and support to families with children affected by this condition. On July 31, 2005, Jorge and his family participated in the Heroes for Hope Gala. On September 7, 2005, Jorge was also nominated for the Clemente award.
Jorge has received a number of awards for everything he has done. In 2001, he received the Milton Richman "You gotta have heart" award by the New York chapter of the BBWAA. In 2000, he received the Thurman Munson award for his baseball accomplishments and philanthropic work. In 2003, he was named one of Diamond Dad's Founding Fathers. Also in 2003, he tied the record for 'Most Home-Runs by a New York Yankee catcher'. He had 30 home runs. He also ranked 3rd as the American League MVP. In 2004, he was one of the best on the Yankee's. He had an above average amount of home runs and RBI's. Jorge has been a 4-Time All Star and a Top 10 MVP 3 times.
