Krystal: A Short History Of The Poetry Learning Process

Hello. I am Krystal, creator of this site, and writer of everything on it. I created this space because I write more poetry than I should, and I need someplace to put it where people can actually read it, even if they don't know me personally.

I started writing poetry in first grade, childish poems of course, when I first learned about poetry. It all rhymed, and my spelling was terrible, but isn't it the same for all children? I stopped writing poetry for a peroid of time, and picked it back up in sixth grade, realizing that I needed an outlet for my creativity. First it was song lyrics, and I would know how I wanted the tune to go, but I couldn't play an instrument. I still can't. I always carried a small journal around, to write in. In eighth grade, I learned about a different kind of poetry: free verse. I found it both interesting and confusing at first, but in a couple of weeks it became a breeze. Not rhyming made more sense to me, allowed me to say what I needed to say without worrying about the lines being of the same sound and length. Some people didn't like the english teacher that year. She's the one who opened up my eyes to different types of poetry, and helped to set a base for later works. In my freshman year, my english teacher took a special interest in my poetry, telling me I should start submitting it to the literary magazine at the school. I didn't that year(this year I did), but I continued to write peoems, with high hopes of writing something that people other than my english teachers would find interesting. I started showing my work to people recently.

You'll notice that my poetry is in different catagories. The reason for that, is because while I write about a wide variety of topics, there are some topics that are of more interest to me.

I hope you enjoy the site.

Much love, Krystal
