Kiley grew up around horses and mules and started riding at the age of 5. She spent most of her adolescence competing in eventing and dressage. After a hiatus from riding while in college, she is back into horses full swing. She changed her focus from competing to training and teaching. For the last few years, she has taught people how to start and train young horses using natural horsemanship techniques, as well as teaching lessons in dressage, eventing and jumping. Kiley is available for lessons, training, shows and clinics. She can also do special training sessions for problem horses, such as trailer loading problems, spooky horses, saddle fit clinics and standing for the ferrier.
The thing that I notice about a lot of trainers and riders is that they don’t take the time to actually teach the horse the skills that it needs to be a successful horse, either in the show ring or out on the trail. Too many people want quick results and take short cuts in training, which leads to a grouchy horse that hates his job. The answer has always been to use a stronger bit and bigger spurs. Growing up in the eventing world, that’s what I was always told and all it ever got me was a bucket full of bits and a horse that was still hard to handle. I believe that it takes time and work to create a good horse and I want my clients to feel the same way. Short cuts, gadgets and bad-aid fixes are not the answer. True training is. If a horse is taught the correct skills on the ground, it makes getting into the saddle that much easier. I teach my clients how to communicate with the horse using their seat and hands and body language and the results are amazing.
The person that Kiley takes her determination to strive to be a good horse trainer from is Farrah Green. “Farrah has been with me since I can remember, she truly is a great horsewoman. I have learned much from her and I owe my skills and teachings to her. To watch her work with a horse is a thing of beauty, and the proof of her great work shows in the horses she rides”.
