All of Kolchak's nightmares begin with this made for TV movie that had audiences scarred out of their seats as the most watched TV movie of the week for that year. Reporter Carl Kolchak hasn't seen a good story with his byline on it in such a long time that he must work out of a little newspaper in Las Vegas to make the ends meet as he nears his sunset age. But what would happen if Kolchak stumbled upon a story so sensational, so unbelievable, so horrific that reporting on it could get him back on top of his game as an ace reporter? Would the public believe it? Would his Editor print it? Would the higher-ups in Las Vegas let Kolchak live long enough to tell this one of a kind story - - A real live Vampire on a killing spree in sin city! Time is running out for Kolchak - could this be his final story?
Comments: Try and have this story told now, and you probably wouldn't be able to get it on the air - not with a lead character so old, but as written back in the 1970's, this story still plays well 30 years later. Actor Darren McGavin makes you believe that this guy only wants whats best for his readers by telling the story of this supernatual killer. As everyone know, Jeff Rice's original story was put in good hands for the teleplay, written by Richard Matheson. And McGavin brings Kolchak to life with such charm - even in an out dated suit and silly straw hat. Still one of the greatest TV movies every made. Will live on forever.
