Chinoumi Sesu

Background: orphan from Shugorei and its soul survivor.  His father was Chinoumi Nasienru, Yoshi's best friend; the leader of Shugorei and his mother was Akako.  He spent the first five years of his life extremely sheltered because others of Shugorei feared the fact he possessed black magic.  Three weeks after his fifth birthday his mother fell ill and died from poisoning.  On her death bed Akako not only informed her son that he had half the kumogakure spell, but unbeknownst to Sesu she preformed a secret spell that sealing use of the spell to him alone and only in an act of love could it be preformed.  Following Akako's death Sesu's father became extremely over protective always testing his son's food for poison and hiding the boy away from the rest of the world and consequently Sesu never was trained by angels in their ways, laws or magic.  The only knowledge he had gleamed before that was the natural instinct to fly and how to gather energy in his hand as his mother had shown him.  When he turned ten Nanashi and her warriors came and attacked the village before lining up the survivors testing them to see if they had part of the Kumogakure before killing them.  Sesu's father was the only villager to fight back against the line up but as he was alone and had yet to recover over the loss of his wife he was easily overwhelmed.  Thus Sesu watched almost every person in the village cut down before the demoness.  In the end it was just he and an infant who remained.  Grey Wolfe arrived and ordered Nanashi to give custody of the boy over to him but the baby cried and Nanashi ordered a soldier to kill it to shut it up.  Grey Wolfe then proceeded to raise the boy and Sesu became fast friends with two misfit demons, Brennan and Julian.  He eventually started taking missions for Grey Wolfe and was present in the attack against the castle.  When he arrives in Doars Sorc and meets Kin, it was only a short matter of time for the two to fall for each other. Kin is his most important person and he'd do anything for his lover...even activate the kumogakure spell.  With the exception of the extreme fear he has of loosing Kin, His greatest fear is the sight of blood and thus he fights blindfolded.

Shingakushi Kinkisho

Age: 15 he claims 19

Background: Kin is a doctor who ran away from home at age 14.  He fled because his father had lost a bet in which he was the wager.  Growing up his mother was suicidal and the boy learned quickly how to deal with poison.  He ran away to Daors Sorc where he met Sesu and the others.  He fell in love with Sesu after being saved by the half-angel twice.  He is a very skilled healer with the ability to see the wings of those who have angelic blood as well as instantaneously know how to treat any illness or injury.  He tends to make friends quickly and is loved by the common people.  This is mainly because of the fact he'll treat anyone in need of it.  He got into quite a pickle however when he chose to aid Nibori and Yoshi when the people of Doars Sorc are completely untrustworthy of any foreigners.  His closest friends before he met the angels were Dan and Sara who despite not having much to give helped him gain a home in Daors Sorc.  He views Sara as an older sister and wants to help her family even more because of what she's given him.  He also has a sister of his own whom he worries deeply for after all even as his father's heir he was a throw away for a bet and his father never viewed his sister as his own.  Kin is in truth quite brave and willing to go onto a battle field to help the wounded even if Sesu begs him not to.

Ouzoku Nibori

Age: 190-199

Background: Nibori is the 19-year-old prince of the Angels.  He has lived an incredibly sheltered life due to the fact that his mother died while he was still a baby because she had hemophilia, which she passed on to her son. Because Nibori also has a very weak immune system, his father wishes to keep the boy away from all harm.  Nibori thus grew up in his room with limited contact to the outside world.  His best friend as a child was a servant girl named Majikaru Chikako.  He grew up incredibly close to her and entrusted her with the secret of his boyfriend, Yoshi.  He loves Yoshi dearly and will do anything to help the group.  He is generally very worried about those he cares for and willing to go to the ends of the earth for them.  After Chikako sacrificed herself to save him and Yoshi, Nibori makes fast friends with Kinkisho.  Nibori was shocked to discover that he bears the three prophetic marks, the hero's mark, the warrior's mark and the royal mark. He tends to be very jealous of Sesu because Yoshi spends so much time training the last Shugorei lord, not to mention Chikako died do to a wound he inflicted.  He hopes that when all this is over he’ll be worthy of his royal blood and that no one will get hurt because of him. Nibori's biggest frustration is that everyone around him tries so hard to keep him out of harms way when he wishes to fight to protect him or her.  His abilities include skilled flight, basic light spells for attack and a concealing spell. He can also make any angel do as he pleases do to the royal mark.  But of all his markings the mystery remains why a teen who has never left his rooms bears the hero's mark...what did he do to earn it or what is he destined to accomplish. Before all this growing up Nibori fantasized about the people of Shugorei and wished more than anything to meet one of them.  Because of this while he is slightly peeved that Yoshi never told him that he was from Shugorei, he is overjoyed to finally be part of the legends he grew up with.

Shimamura Yoshi

Age: 420-439

Height: 5'9"

Race: Angel

Eyes: Red Brown

Outfit: Black pants, green v-neck sleeveless shirt; brown belt, moneybag and a European sword carried Japanese assassin style.

Background:  Yoshi used to be a Shugoreian warrior and was next in line to become the small nation's lord...in his benefit the title when to his best friend and cousin because Yoshi seemed unable to use magic beyond the most simple of basics...he didn't want the title anyway...Yoshi's friend Nasienru became Shugorei lord in his place.  Soon after Nasienru became the ruler he, Nasienru, married Akako and they had a son Sesu.   Yoshi was very much a part of the family until Akako died do to poisoning when a grief stricken Nasienru pushed everyone away from him save for his son.  Yoshi left and worked on border patrol until he was captured by demons and tortured by Nanashi until she forced his half of the Kumogakure spell from him.  He then spent 5 years in captivity until he was released being told that all of Shugorei had been wiped from the face of the face of the planet leaving no survivors...this was not quite true as Sesu survived but Yoshi had no way of knowing that... all stories he heard in the first few days immediately following his release seemed to back this up claim.  Yoshi then went to the palace where he was hired as Nibori’s care keeper. He fell in love with his charge almost on first sight.  He has almost no ability as a spell-caster but he knows enough of magic to instruct Sesu and Nibori in it.  For the most part Yoshi uses a sword, the one weapon he in unmatched in.  He cares above all else for Nibori and is willing to do what ever it takes to protect him. On a side note once as a teen he was taken to an oracle that predicted that Yoshi would never love a woman but he would love a young man of noble birth. Of course this resulted in endless teasing from Nasienru but there was a general consensus that the prophecy was the best thing for Yoshi.  His fears surround Nibori's safety above all else but he is also well aware of the danger that Nanashi poses if she should gain Sesu's half of the Kumagakure spell from the young warrior.

Nanashi

Age: 389

Height: 5'6"

Race: Demon

Outfit: a red ballroom gown

Background: Nanashi is the main villain of Kokuro.  She is a demoness who took over the demon court some 20 years ago, but did not fully unseat Grey Wolfe until about 7 years ago. Her goals appear to be obtaining the Kumogakure spell for herself as well as the typical world domination thing.  While she paints the appearance of a life long demon she was in truth a member of the ancient race though she was still an infant when the race was wiped from the face of the earth. Nor is she in her true self evil.  She was possessed by her aunt who was the bringer of the ancients’ demise.  Not much is known about the girl beneath the possession other than she hates her parents for letting her get possessed which may be why she doesn't fight her aunts grip on her when it comes to over throwing Grey Wolfe or attempting to hunt down Chikako.  She did, however, feel some remorse at banishing Brennan whom she believes her brother, but as he sides with her father the girl let it be done.  Her possessor on the other hand feels no remorse at any of these deeds and will stop at nothing to complete her plans.

Brennan Wolfe

Outfit: Whatever he pleases.  In his home in Grey Wolfe's house he dresses in blue robes of the same style as Nobles but while living near the Shingakushi clan he dawns a kimono also blue.

Background: Brennan or Bre as he is sometimes called, is the illegitimate half demon son of Grey Wolfe.  A year Sesu's senior, the two were close friends during Sesu's time in his fathers care.  This is in part because where Sesu is a half-angel who uses black magic he is also an anomaly a half-demon who uses white magic and a rare and ancient form at that.  When he was 13 Brennan was nearly beaten to death (He was also raped but that detail has escaped Sesu's knowledge because Grey Wolfe kept that detail from the child) by a courtier supporter of Nanashi.  Luckily the man’s son Julian rescued him.  Julian entered Grey Wolfe's services and Grey Wolfe exerted the last of his power over the demon court working with Julian to bring Brennan's attacker to justice.  Over time Bre fell for Julian and the two became lovers.  Sadly this wasn't to work out because when they turned 16 Nanashi passed a law ordering all half-breeds not in the service of a house to either be conscripted for Military duty or banished.  This specifically targeted the children of nobles like Brennan.  For a time he lived in hiding but eventually Julian, under the belief Nanashi would not harm his lover, revealed the hiding location of the demon prince.  Rather than fight for his sworn enemy Brennan went into exile where he took up a home near the Shingakushi complex.  It is later discovered that Chikako who stole the boy from his mother’s womb birthed him and said mother was Sesu's own.  He also somehow came to use the same magic as the ancient race probably do to his time in the womb of an ancient and is consequently seen as a freak for it by both angels and demons.


Shingakushi Gin

Background: Kin's father and head of the Shingakushi Clan.  A naturally stubborn and corrupt man he would rather sacrifice his children than loose power.  He is also the reason Kin's mother is bordering on suicide.  This is due to the fact after Reametaru's birth he refused to believe that the girl was his legitimate child and continued to blame his wife for years to follow.  He is also an obsessive gambler who has never won a bet in his life.


Shingakushi Reametaru

Background: Kin's younger sister.  She grew up feeling extremely guilty over her mother’s condition as she was told young it started soon after she was born because her father refused to recognize her being his child.  Reametaru picked up on martial arts by watching men practicing while passing by; she never stayed to specifically watch.  She is just as skilled in dealing with poisons as her brother but lacks healing skills in other areas.


Dan

Background: Dan is a 1/4 angel who has lived his life an orphan in Daors Sorc.  He married his wife Sara at 15 when they eloped against her father's will.  While extremely poor he fights desperately to care for his with and their 3 small children. Hiri, age 2 and a half, and the twins Remi and Jamey age 11 months.  When Kin first arrived in Daors Sorc, he helped the young doctor get settled in as well as vouch for the boy's intent only to help the poor of the city.  He never met his human father but his mother was a half-angel who died when he was 3.  Luckily for him she managed to convince everyone around her that she was really only 1/4 angel and that her son had neither active angelic blood nor any loyalty to Ouzuko. This was good for Dan's childhood because it kept him out of harms way because of his angelic blood.  When he hit his teens he met Sara, who was at the time a virtual princess amongst her people, and the two became close.  Eventually, however, Sara's family refused her to be able to associate with Dan and the two of them eloped. While their early years together have been difficult, he loves his family deeply.  He has some skill in white magic though minimal, having grown up a complete orphan.  His flaw as a character comes from the fact that in many ways he truly believes his family would be better off if he were dead so that Sara and the children could return to her family.


Sara

Background: Sara was once of the nobility of Daors Sorc but now lives in poverty with her husband, Dan.  She is a good friend of Kinkisho's and a loving mother to her 3 children.  She eloped with Dan when she was only 14. Having given birth to her first son, Hiri, at 16 she is viewed by the community (those that don't know who she is at least) as a bit of a tramp.  Kin often helps her with her younger son and daughter, Remi and Jamey.  When Kin first arrived in Daors Sorc he helped her give birth to the twins. Sara is also extremely supportive of Kin and Sesu's relationship as she sees as a little brother and something of a younger version of herself.


Yuri

Background: Yuri is the daughter of an apothecary kin often visits.  She is the daughter of Sesu's mother's surviving sister, but sadly her mother died while she was still very small.  She adores dragons believing them to be sacred beings.  She is extremely honest and Sesu gives her a ruby-dragon pendant as a gift.


Chinoumi Nasienru

Background: Sesu's father and the former leader of Shugorei.  He was Yoshi's best friend as a child and the most powerful spell caster Shugorei had ever seen up until his wife arrived.  His own story is that of an orphan growing up in Shugorei.  Consequently his closest living relative was Yoshi's own father, the brother of his mother.  Being born to the Chinoumi Clan he was born a natural flier. His magic was also almost twice as powerful as his uncle's, whereas Yoshi's magic was barely present, so he became the next ruler of Shugorei.  Other Chinoumis still existed with another clan leader which would have made the clan head the ruler, but for all intents and purposes they had completely thrown him out of the clan, so with the addition of his extreme magical skills Nasienru became village leader.  When Akako showed up in the village he came to adore she was a human and because Akako used black magic to an extent they feared she was a powerful demon who would destroy them all.  He had Yoshi be his best man and Sesu's guardian should anything happen to him or his wife.  After Akako was murdered via the poison in their food source he unintentionally pushed his friend away.  Nasienru became paranoid, as well, about his son's safety thus made certain the boy only had food and drink he determined to be safe and never let the boy go about the village without being at his side.  He died when Nanashi and her forces attacked the village and he was the only Shugoreian to fight back during the battle.  After his death Sesu's wings make the transformation from white to black.

Chinoumi Akako

Background:  She is Sesu's mother.  Akako was born having part of the kumogakure spell running in her veins.  After her father died in a mysterious accident, the townsfolk decided her mother and sisters must be witches.  While her relatives did not posses magic and thus drowned, her own powers wrapped around her and rescued her bringing her downstream to Doars Sorc where she followed the great river upstream to Shugorei.  She met Nasienru and later married him.  Others often criticized her in Shugorei for her black magic.  She held herself strongly and proudly throughout this time and after having, Sesu transferred these thoughts unto her child.  As time progressed, she taught the boy some of the more basic aspects of her magic until she was poisoned and later died.  On her deathbed, she told her son about the Kumogakure spell and sealed its use to him.  Her death greatly affected her husband and he never fully recovered from it until he died as well.  Sesu has a deep respect for his mother and he will often speak of her with extreme pride.  She is also the biological mother of Brennan although she never knew it.

Grey Wolfe

Background: He is the former king of demons.  Grey Wolfe is father of Brennan and foster father to Sesu and Julian.  While currently referred to as a pure demon he was in truth born back as a member of the ancient race before it spilt into angels and demons.  His wife was the ruler of the ancient's daughter, Majikaru Chikako, and they had two children a son who currently resides with the leader and a daughter, Nanashi.  Sadly their daughter was possessed turning into an evil being.  He works hard to stop his daughter's possessor from accomplishing her goals and came to raise the three 'misfits' as a result.  While Brennan is in truth not really his son, he cares for him and Sesu equally as his children, partially because they are thorns in Nanashi's side.  He works hard to unseat his daughter as well as to help Sesu accomplish freedom.  Grey Wolfe's powers are both that of light and dark, but since he plays the role of a demon, the common people know only his dark powers.

Majikaru Chikako

Background: Like Grey Wolfe she is in truth a member of the ancients, the leader's daughter in fact.  About 200 years ago, she reverted to child form to try to counter her daughter's fall to evil.  Her sister had possessed Nanashi causing her to become the dark demoness who is Nibori and Sesu's greatest enemy.  She placed herself in the palace as a servant to watch the events unfold and to try and nurture Nibori into one who would finally stop her daughter. This was before Sesu's birth or her first encounter with him.  When she learned of Akako's arrival in Shugorei, Chikako began to shift her interest to the human girl and her bloodline.  Her observation of the young woman soon proved useful, Akako conceived Brennan while still unmarried and in her teens, so to protect both mother and child Chikako stole the boy from his mother's womb.  After she gave birth to him, she gave him to her husband Grey Wolfe for protection and returned to the palace believing the bloodline would be safe.   She stayed with the royal family for the next 21 years until the attack on the palace, where she "sacrificed" herself to save Nibori.  In truth, she merely destroyed the child form of Chikako and returned to her form as a member of the ancients.  Her abilities are that of only light magic which allowed her to masquerade as an angel.
