Member Benefits
World Wide Affiliation
Rather than being just an independent researcher in the art of Koga Ryu Ninjutsu, the Koga Ryu Ninjutsu Society (KRNS) allows members actual affiliation throughout the world. Therefore all documents, certificates, texts, etc. are recognized by a larger audience.
Fore those members who wish to teach the art of Koga Ryu Ninjutsu, the KRNS offers charter memberships enabling your students, as well as yourself, to have large affiliations.
The KRNS will serve as a governing body for moving the art forward in practice and standardization. Thereby "cleaning up" the public image of Koga Ryu. No longer will "instructors" be able to make up their own style and just call it Koga Ryu, while not having any historical basis.
Ranking and Advancement
All of our certificates are written in both English and Japanese and are of the highest quality. They feature official hanko (stamps) from the KRNS and are internationally recognized.
Student certificates (9th Kyu-Ikkyu) are one card stock 11x17.
Black Belt certificates (Shodan-Yondan) are on card stock 11x17 with dynamic colors.
Black Belt certificates (Godan and above) are hand painted and truly unique. It comes with an English translation.
Dulled down (for copyright protection) pictures of some of our certificates can be found in the KRNS store.
Do you practice another martial art, but wish to study Koga Ryu Ninjutsu?
Homologation: recognized at your current rank and receiving an equivalent level in the art of Koga Ryu Ninjutsu.
The KRNS allows practitioners to practice the art of Koga Ryu Ninjutsu and advance through dilligent study. Those who have no experience in the martial art of Koga Ryu Ninjutsu (as practiced by the KRNS), but do hold ranking in other martial arts can "cross rank"/homologize into Koga Ryu Ninjutsu. What this means is that, for example, if you have a Nidan in Shotokan Karate you can cross rank to a Nidan in Koga Ryu Ninjutsu and then continue your study directly though us. You will need to provide a media demonstration of yourself to ensure that we are in agreement with your skill level and pay the testing fee ($100) for us to review your media and issue a certificate (if approved). This is only available up to Yondan. So, hypothetically if a practitioner holds a rank of Rokudan in Shotokan Karate, they can only be recognized and issued a certificate up to Yondan in Koga Ryu Ninjutsu.
Once you are recognized as holding legitimate rank through the KRNS then you can continue your study directly though us. In the near future we will have distance courses on the material through Godan.
Have you invented your own style?
Very often individual martial arts masters begin to mix and syncretize their martial knowledge into one grand system drawing from the best elements of the respective schools they have studied. This was true during feudal Japan and it is true today. Many times an instructor can feel tied down by politics and bureaucracy regarding issuing ranks, training of students, etc. which leads them to leaving their respective martial arts schools and forming their own branch. The KRNS understands such cases and sees the need for a governing body of Koga Ryu influenced and based systems.
For those who have developed their own style, the KRNS does offer licenses recognizing them as a unique school. This allows the individual Master to have a connection to a large group of martial artists to promote the exchange of ideas and the spread of their martial art. This allows the member complete control over their style.
These members will be listed as creators of their own styles in the Ninja Alliance section of our website.

Future Advancement
Through creating a standardized system based on Seiko Fujita's literature we are able to offer a rank system in a progressive way. Historically the idea of rank was not of much importance, so none was usually issued. The moderized belt system (kyu-dan) is derived from judo. At the KRNS we are continually striving for historical accuracy, so we feel that the licensing (menkyo) method best fits with our methodology. We used the licenseing system along with modern kyu-dan rank sytsem. The licenses are awarded in this order:
Menkyo Shoden (Initial License) (4-10 yrs) (approx. 3rd Dan)
Menkyo Chuden (Middle License) (additional 10yrs) (approx. 5th Dan)
Menkyo Okuden (Advanced (deeper) License) (additional 10 yrs) (approx. 8th Dan)
Menkyo Kaiden (Full Mastery License) (additional 10 yrs) (approx. 10th Dan)
All licenses (not dan certificates) are hand painted and individually made.
Menkyo are only issued to those with exceptional martial arts skills and who submitt a 10 page essay along with the black belt test.
No Licenses can be issued to minors(we define under 21).
Teaching Koga Ryu Ninjutsu
Those who reach (not homologized) the rank of Nidan (second degree black belt) within the KRNS can qualify for Associate Instructorship with our society. This allows them to teach the art and test (with the assistance of the KRNS).
At the rank of Sandan (not homologized)(third degree black belt) the individual can then apply for Full Instructorship within the KRNS. This allows them to teach the art and test students up to one rank below their current rank. (without the assistance of the KRNS)
Once passing the Godan (fifth degree black belt test) the member then becomes a Master Instructor. This gives the member full authority (up to yondan) to teach the art however they seem fit.
At each of these levels, all certificates are supplied by the KRNS. This ensures authenticity.
Seminars
Instructors who are holding seminars are free to email the KRNS and have their seminar listed on our website.
