Kodály
of the Ozarks was formed in 2004 by Rene Spencer,
Becky Moore, and Jane Phillips to serve the music teachers and children
of the Springfield, Missouri, area. In just a few short years,
the chapter has grown under Rene's leadership to over twenty extremely
active members in southwest Missouri and north central Arkansas.
Each year, KOZ
hosts a children's honor choir in the spring, a two-week summer
certification seminar, a fall workshop during which chapter members
present their favorite lessons and play parties, and a spring workshop
that typically features nationally- or internationally-recognized
Kodály experts. Please consider joining us at any or all
of these events. More information can be found regarding dates,
time, locations, and costs by clicking the "Events" button
to the left.
Membership is
open to any practicing or aspiring music educator or supporter of
music education who believes, as did Zoltán Kodály,
that "music belongs to everyone!" Please visit the
"Membership" link to the left to find more information
about joining KOZ and its parent organization, the Organization
of American Kodály Educators.
The best way
to learn to begin using the Kodály approach to music education is
to attend certification training in the summer. KOZ, in association
with Evangel University, offers the two-week seminars each July.
