Striker Tips
I'M SCARED OF HEADERS!
Dear Coach King, I'm a good striker but I'm scared of going in for headers. Do you have any tips to help me?
COACH KING SAYS:
Bravery is the key to great headers of the ball, just look at John Terry when he goes in for a corner! If you want to avoid aerial clashes work on your movement. If it's good enough you should be able to find space in the box to get a free header.
Getting Round The Back
Dear CK, I need some tips on beating defenders so I can score or set up a team-mate. Can you help me?
COACH KING SAYS:
If there is one thing defenders hate defending against, it’s pace! But if you're not quick, look to use some trickery.
Mastering skills such as the step over, drag back, inside hook or Cryuff turn will baffle defenders and help create goal-scoring opportunities.
I Need Power!
Dear CK, I can't get power behind my shots and most of my other team mates can. Can you help me improve?
COACH KING SAYS:
To improve the power in your shots you need move your shooting foot through more quickly and drive through the ball to give it more pace. It's not all about power though, you need to be accurate to hit the back of the net.
Shooting Tips
Dear CK, I need some help with my shooting. When I get a chance to shoot I panic and eventually lose possession. Can you help?
COACH KING SAYS:
Not a problem Richard, this is what you need to do. When shooting drive through the ball with the inside of your foot. Keep your head down otherwise the ball will fly over the bar and try to aim for the corners - 'keepers hate getting down to those! Use these tips and your panic will soon go away!
Get A Head!
Dear Coach King, I play as a striker but I'm scared of heading the ball. What can I do?
COACH KING SAYS:
Firstly, it's okay to be a bit scared of the ball.
Start by throwing the ball a little way in the air and then heading it against a wall or into an empty net. As you get used to how the ball feels, start to head it harder and faster!
