Hi,
We are a few ladies in Brisbane, Queensland, Australia, who love knitting/crocheting and want to put our craft to work to help those less fortunate.
We invite you to join us and knit at your own pace at home, work or wherever to make items to be donated to charities who assist the homeless; abused; refugees; cancer patients; prem babies; animal shelters; needy families etc.
We ask that the charities give the items we donate DIRECTLY to those in need.
Our idea is to have all donated items collected, stored, sorted and distributed to the charities from one location. A list of all names of group members who have contributed would be sent with each donation unless the giver specifically requests their name not be given.
Charities who have been spoken to have told us how much this would be appreciated as people don't tend to donate warm clothing for Queensland's needy as they think it doesn't get cold enough here, but it does especially for those living on the streets in the cold and wet. They also like to be able to give some NEW items to the needy as it boosts their self confidence to have something new and they tend to look after it with a bit more care.
So get those needles working...anything - booties, bonnets, beanies, scarves, baby blankets, knee rugs, blankets, jumpers, cardigans (for babies, children and adults) and even knitted toys would be greatly appreciated.
Please join us in keeping Queensland's needy warm this coming winter.
If you are are part of, or know on any Queensland charities who may be able to use some of our donations please let us know about them by giving us their contact details.
All donations of wool, needles, buttons etc would also be appreciated. Also if you know of any companies/organisations who may be able to donate wool etc could you please let us know. If we receive any donations of these items they will be distributed amongst all the knitters/crocheters in the group.
Thank you and we look forward to "clicking" our needles with you soon!!
