"To conduct an orchestra is a social activity. The writer, whose
works have never been published, the artist, with no exhibition
materialized, still can rely on receiving immortality. But the conductor
must overcome himself in a special case; in this very "case"
he must use up so much quantity of social energy, as other people should
need for their whole life..."

PREFACE
There are personalities who have rendered outstanding services to different spheres of life, who have created a new system of chronology in the corresponding activity, to which they have devoted and dedicated the best of their creative potential. Such personalities in the music sphere are the unique masters of baton Erich and Carlos Kleiber.
Articles by their contemporaries, as well as by admirers of their art are collected in this book (from foreign press and Internet). Apart of my materials have been published in the "Musica Viva" newspaper, "Music - yesterday, today" magazine, "LIK" magazine, as well as the "MYTH" magazine. They are an attempt for acquaintance with the most characteristic life features of both conductors and with their unique conductor's mastership in rehearsal and concert activity. Four unique points of view are presented in the book - English, German, Italian and Spanish. Each one of these four points of view presents Kleiber in a different perspective.
It should be notified that not much is known about the Kleiber's family, there are not many writings, and in our country haven't been published other materials except the mentioned above. In my opinion, their art might and should serve as an example to everyone, devoted to the conducting.
The symphonic, opera and operetta compositions, that sounded under their baton, which we can hear and see in a few of their records, assure us more and more that we must more often speak, write and listen to such titans in the world musical culture, so that their mastership could enrich and inspire some more generations of conductors and admirers of their musical art. This is the intention and the purpose of the author and compiler of the book "Kleiber's era".
