Your Kitten's Gender ~ Apply For Our Kool Kat Site Award ~ Become A Member

It's not always easy to be able to tell your cats gender without professional help, so we've provided this section to help. Firstly, lift your kitten's tail. If it is a male, its genitals will show as two vertical dots, like these...  :

However, if it is a female, it will show as an upside down exclamation mark, like this...  i.

Just remember if you don't want you cat to have kittens you should get it spayed or neutered. One cat unspayed or uneutered can lead to many unwanted kittens.

You can now win our Kool Kat Site Award! All you have to do is e-mail us at kitten_in_a_mitten@yahoo.com.au with the URL of your great website, and your e-mail address so we can get back to you. But remember, your site must be about cats.

The Kitty Kat Klan came across this website: http://cairnsandfriends.homestead.com/index_1.html . It is about stopping cruelty to animals, like cats, closing puppy mills and enforcing animal abuse laws. By becoming a Guardian Angel and joining their mailing list, you can become more aware of how our animals are treated, and will recieve a banner, like ours below. If you would like to be a Member too, click on the link above to go to the website.

Cat Cuisine

This is our tastiest section, all about your cat's diet. We have even decided to occasionally provide a recipe for you to make your cat.

Drinks

Most Siamese cats cannot tolerate cow's milk. A drink of it can result in constant diarrhea, or stomach upsets. If you would like to supply your Siamese with milk, but you have discovered she can't have cow's milk, you can purchase specially formulated cat milk, which is available at pet shops and supermarkets, and lactose free, which should cause no problem.

Otherwise, water is the most sensible thing to give your cat, and should be available fresh at all times.

Foods

It is entirely up to you and your budget what you feed your cat. Commercial foods seem to be popular (tinned foods, biscuits, etc) but we can never be sure what they really put into these. Don't forget this.

But you can always purchase meat at the butcher's: mince, liver, kidney, chicken, heart, etc. (chicken wings are wonderful for their teeth)

Also, table scraps can be a healthy option. But remember, things like chocolate, pizza, etc, are not really good for them.

 Recipe No 1

MINCE AND SARDINE PIE

This is a tasty meal for your cat/kitten. Sorry to those that prefer to cook by microwave, but we are only providing oven instructions.

You will need:

  • One sheet of puff pastry
  • Less than half a kilo of premium mince
  • A small tin of sardines
  • Half a cup of cat biscuits
  • A small pie dish

Step 1. Preheat your oven to 180 degrees and grease the small pie dish.

Step 2. Line the dish with pastry, and cook mince until brown.

Step 3. Place cooked mince in dish, spread sardines on the mince.

Step 4. Sprinkle the cat biscuits on top, place remaining pastry over the dish as a lid and bake until golden brown.

Step 5. When ready, take out of oven and leave to cool for about 5 mins.  Cut into bite size pieces and serve in your cat's bowl with a dash of their favourite sauce. Yum!

Please remember that the staff at Triple K created this dish and it would be wrong to copy it in any form without written permission.

Cat Craft

Cats have been called 'crafty' ever since the days when people believed in witches. But have you ever thought of it this way?

Welcome to our cat craft section. This is where you can make toys and other things for  your beautiful puss. We have made sure that everything is safe, but there are some tips at the bottom of each activity that will warn you of some things you may have to do to prevent your cat getting hurt. Please read these, for the safety of your cat.

1.) Ball of Yarn.

This is very simple, with only four steps, and will entertain your kitty for hours.

All you need is some wool.

1. Put your hand flat out, and start wrapping the wool loosely around your fingers.

2.  When there is a firm, thick circle of wool around your fingers,  pull it off.

3. Continue to wind the remaining wool onto your circle, and soon, as you use more and more of the wool, you will produce a beautiful, big ball. It is important that you make a big ball, not a small one, as if you have a little kitten, it could swallow it!

4. When you have used almost all your wool, or you think it is big enough for your cat, it is very important that you tie up the loose end into the ball, and tightly. If your cat is playing with it, and it unravells, you will have a big job ravelling it up again! Also, don't use weak wool. If you do, your cat will wreck the ball easily with its claws, and you will have wasted your time.

Always surpervise your cat when it is playing with the ball you have made, as it could tangle itself up, and become frightened, or worse could happen. As soon as the ball gets old and tattered, you must disposed of it, for your cats safety and hygiene.

Have fun!

2.) Peek-a-Prize Box

To make a Peek-a-Prize box, you will need some cardboard, wood, or any other strong material and some of your cats favourite toys, or some little food treats. Depending on what you are using (cardboard=sharp scissors/penknife) you will also need something to cut with.

1. Cut a small rectangular prism out of your material. (The carboard, wood, etc) Ask mum or dad to help you if you are not sure how.

2. Next, cut large round holes in a nice pattern on every side of the box except the bottom. Then place your cat's favourite toys, or the food treats, inside, and let your cat try to find them!

If you decide to make your peek-a-prize box out of wood, remember some types of wood can be harmful to your kitten if it decides to chew it. Also, it is a good idea to put cat treats inside your Peek-a-Prize box, because the smell of the tasty treat attracts them, and your cat will enjoy eating the treats. But remember, if your cat doesn't eat them, you must discard them, as they will go rotten quickly, and will not be good for your cat any longer.

We have already said in the instructions to cut large holes, but we would like to remind you to make sure these holes are large, otherwise your cat may get its head stuck in one.
