Home of British Shorthairs and one Scottish Fold

My cattery is a retirement hobby (to keep me out of trouble).  I'm raising British Shorthairs because I love their personalities and they will be ok while I'm at work until I retire which will hopefully be next year.  I do have a precious Scottish Fold which is really a neat feline. All of my cats are registered with CFA.

My male's name is Sunny.  My granddaughter saw his picture and said, "Oh, Nana......he looks like sunshine."  So he was named Sunny.  He is a cream and white Brit.  I have just received my calico female whom I've named Britse.  She is also a cutie.

All of my cats are indoor cats only because I do not declaw them, nor do I want them in fights and hurt or catching a dreadful disease.  They will also keep me company and might be better than kids (as my husband once told me......."at least Kelly (our cat at the time) hasn't hurt my feelings like the kids have." )

The British Shorthair:

Here's some information on British Shorthairs:  Their date of origin is in the 1880's in Great Brittain.  They came from Chinchilla Shorthairs.  They're compact and well muscled.  Their thick undercoats keeps them warm on cold days.  Their fur is the most beautiful fur I've seen on cats, the fur glistens when the light hits it just right.

Although Brits have a gentle disposition, they do not like being handled too much.  Sunny is content to sit at my feet when I'm on the computer and loves it when I pet him with my feet.  He really is an enjoyable cat.

Great news............Sunny and Britse had their litter 6/17/08.   See snapshots in the photo gallery, nursery.

Scottish Folds

Broxi (short for Brockit which means black and white markers in Scottish Gaelic) is my white with black markings long-hair Scottish Fold.  I just love it when she does her prairie dog bit of sitting and looking around.  She is the sweetest personality of all my cats.

Here's some information on Folds:  Date of origin ~ 1961 in Scotland.  Came from a farm cat named Suzie.  The most distinguishing characteristic of a Fold is it's small ears which fold forward and downward, giving them an impish look.  They are sweet-tempered and attentive, devoted and not demanding.  The Fold can be outcrossed with both American and British Shorthair cats or bred with a straight-eared Fold.

They are medium sized cats.  They have large round broadly spaced eyes, well-rounded whisker pads and a short nose with a gentle curve in profile.  They come in both long and short-haired varieites.

The kittens are not born with folded ears.  The ears that carry the gene usually start folding around the 21st day.

Good news, Sunny and Broxi (Fold) had a litter of 3 7/10/08; one is a dilute calico, one blue/white  and the last  is black/white.  Thought the calico was a fold but unfortunately, her ears straightened out a week later; so all are straight-ear.
