BNSF Railway

The BNSF Railway, formerly the Burlington Northern-Santa Fe Railway, has 3 lines into St. Louis. The K-Line from The North, the Cuba Sub from the Southwest and the River sub from the South. BNSF's predecessor roads, originally reached St. Louis from only the north. This line, the K-Line was built by the Chicago, Burlington and Quincy (AKA Burlington Route) and was the Hill lines only reach into the Gateway city. It was only after the GN/NP/CB&Q/SP&S merged to form Burlington Northern that the BN made any effort to get more lines into St. Louis. In 1980, BN bought and merged the St. Louis-San Fransisco Railroad (FRISCO) to give it a reach into Florida and Oklahoma. This made the BN the largest Railraod in America. In 1996, the BN merged with the Santa Fe Railway to form the Burlington Northern-Santa Fe Railway Co. For 10 years, the BNSF has played a silent role, with only 30 departures and 29 arrivals on a daily basis. In early 2005, Burlington Northern-Santa Fe Railway changed its name and its logo to todays BNSF Railway.

BNSF 6040 is one of the oodles of new ES series units on the roster. The number came from an SD9.

The EMD SD70ACe was the first EMD locomotive model that BNSF bought from the firm in 6 years. This was caused because GM shifted all shipments to UP, and BNSF swore, "NO MORE GM". EMD is now a private firm
