Drag racing schedual - new dates coming soon.
I started to grow into cars since the age of like 8 years old, in my spare time i would read workshop manuals play and take engines apart, to see and learn of componants. My very first book that i read about cars and the first workshop manual i enjoyed reading was a
Later on i helped with my cousin build his car up, We replaced his N/A engine with a factory turbo engine from a later model. At the end the Audi FWD car was making 280kw's.With this car he would go to the Old eastern creek raceway and drag the car, i taped his runs with my video recorder, i liked attending the local street meets because it was fun watching other high performance street and drag cars.
Well at present, before i had my cordias i would go to the new drag strip called the Western Sydney International Dragway. i went many times to watch the cars go down the quatre. Than i had my White mitsubishi cordia turbo, I driven my white cordia for a few months as it was in factory state, than one day i woke up one morning and i just had this feeling that i should race my car, ive never draged a car before so i was unsure of things.
One thing i did need which i didnt have was a approved helmet, so i went to my local cash converter's store which was in Penrith (high street), and i looked for a helmut, there was one and i bought it for $60. That was it im racing now, no turning back. so i got the car ready, you know fuel, checking things overthan the time arrived for me to drive to the WSID which is short for the venue, so i paid the $45 entry fee, filled out the form than i drove to the staging lanes PAUSE i was supposed to go to the scrutineering shed first PLAY than i reversed out of the staging lane and proceeded to the scrutineering shed.
They put the sticker on, marked my windows NOW i can go to my staging lanes, well my time was near, i was up next i was nervous like hell, my legs shaking and everthing.
MIND YOU THIS IS THE SPECS OF THE CAR- MY WHITE GSR
ANALYSIS OF MY FIRST RUN
Lights went green, I took off, The car was neutralising on me in 3rd and 4th gear so i basically just cruised to the finish. At the time i did a 17.2 seconds quater mile time. My next run same thing, but this time i had the ignition cutting out on me for some reason aswell as more neutralising.
You see on the road my cordia did not show any signs of any problems like these issues i experienced at the drags, later i rectified the neutralising problems also the ignition cut out.
Now with my second intercooling conversion my car would now be able to get more boost instead of just the 10 psi i drove around with un intercooled. now its time to drag this car with this type of intercooler fitment and arrangement.
FIRST PASS went to 15.5 seconds, The run was very good, i didnt experience any neutralising problems. so i was happy with that time because it was good to see this time intead of 17 seconds. I drove the car like this for a while including draging the car for a period of time, i participated in many street meets with the cars specs right now and my best quater mile times was 15.5's, Couldnt go any lower. I was running with approx 14 psi boost. And i was happy with the car's result, i was very happy of the result because at one point i raced against other cordias and they had hi flow turbos, and they could only manage high 15's.
NOW GO TO MODIFICATIONS FOR THE NEXT STEP IN THE TIMELINE.
Now with this newy made one and only ic conversion the time has come to test it out, waiting for the next street meet the drag night has arrived, i knew 100% that ill do a much quicker time than 15.5 seconds.
First run i did a 14.8 second pass, i was shocked to see the 14 second digits on my time slip but i knew i would a better time.I drove and raced the car like this for many more street meets, I improved my times and i ended up at best doing MULTIPLE 14.3's with wheelspin in 1st and 2nd gear woith 195's in front.
MORE TO COME.
Ok, ill start by saying, i rushed in the afternoon to swapp my lowerd heavy duty suspension from my red gsr to put it in my white gsr, currantly im gona retire the red gsr till i get a clutch for it. I put the lowerd fronts in and the rears. The only thing left on my red gsr is the 2.5 inch dump pipe and the better 2.5 inch exuast system.
I knew that when i installed the heavy duty clutch my white gsr would do alot better time down the quater.
First pass i launched away, slight wheelspin in 1st and i contiunued all the way down the track, got my time slip and this is the result of my first pass
I was very shocked and amased, but at the end i knew it would do a better time with the new clutch.
Second pass i had more wheelspin so i ended up doing a 14.4.
Third pass i ended up with more wheelspin of the start but i did do a 14.3
I had 2 people come up to me and ask what i had under there, 1 guy asked me if its the 4g93 twincam 1.8 litre, i said nope, its the factory 1.8 sirus g62 engine, i explained to both what engine it was and that my cordia doesn't have any hard core aftermarket stuff like computers, turbo upgrades, you know, what most cordia owners have.
I was very happy with that time, but still i know i can go quicker, if i get that perfect traction of the line i can do a 13 second pass. Remember how i said im hoping for a sub 14.3, well i done it, what ever i say always happens. I deflated my fronts to 20psi. the tyres it has is 215/65 14 inch rims.
The day is 28.6.06, that is the special day that i participated in a off street drag meet with my white cordia. My intention was to test out FINALLY what this cordia performs like with methanol injection. I just want to see how quick the car can go with the Methanol Injection system i installed. I always wanted to see what it does down the quatre because i knew already it will do alot better times because i have already tested it on the road and it makes a big diffrence.
Specs of white cordia at this night during racing.
Outside tempareture at race time
My gosh, the car behaved even worse, with this methanol injection system the car completely looses traction, ist gear i take off, but when i hit 2nd gear it completely wheelspins, mind you i deflated my fronts to 15 psi, YES 15psi, and still it looses traction. The engine can recieve 20 psi of boost in 2nd gear in like 1.5 seconds, instantly. I had only 2 runs because i just wouldnt want to waste my time even more cos of wheelspinning issues. So here is a brief result.
Time down the quater with no bioost mid track and backing off, --- 15.1 seconds
Time down the quater with similar results as my 1st run --- 18 seconds.
The list below are the tyre sizes i started of with and now use to this date.
Right now after using my 215's which i thought was a good upgrade from 205's, i was wrong I NEED BIGGER. I need at least 235's, this tyre size should do the trick. My motto is to use street tyres, i dont want to go to the expense of getting race slicks, cos that would be a big advantage, but because i like to retain as factory as possible and as street as possible, i wanna go as quick as possible with street tyres.
If i were to race with 235 size tyres i should get alot of traction, and obviously better times.
I cant belive how good the car is with the methanol injection, to sum it up, its like MINI nitrous, when it activates it pulls hard.
Currantly my white cordia does at best still with slight wheelspin
Ill keep this updated with results.
PS - Anybody here in Sydney know anybody that has 235 tyres for sale , let me know.
Ok everyone ill give a little run down to my future drag racing meetings and my intentions.
Basically thses are the bits i have >
This is my plans when it comes to drag racing again.
1. I am gonna drag race my red cordia in its state right now, as it is, so basically it will hyave these parts>
Obviously ill be racing with the 235 drag tyres i recently got.
I will see how fast my car is now, and i will continue drag racing it just with those parts i have mentioned above till i am satisfied that i cant do a quicker time, im gona race it, race it, race it, than when i am satisfied with the time it does and i cant manage anything better thats when im gonna introduce my.
2. Now at this level the car will have the same parts above, but in this stage it will have the BIG 3 inch exhuast system, plus it will have the methanol injection setup installed. i will race the car in this setup till im satified with the result,im gonna drag race it till i belive it cant go any quicker.
3. Now with all those performance bits on my car at this stage as mentioned in number 2, i will introduce the Hardcore Nitrous System, it will be now, that ill slowley slowley test it out, and when i do, ill start off in the lowest Hp setting than work upwards, those settings are>
So as you see the power level will dramatically increase with the nitrous at difrent levels, i will go from 55hp drag race it and see how fast i can go, than ill go to 65 Hp shot of nos, than see how fast i can go> than ill give the biggest shot of nos that i can giove it which uis the 75hp jets, than ill race it at this level till im happy and i cant go any quicker, ill race, it race, it race it.
4. Yes, i have one more modification, the tdo5h turbocharger install, ill bolt on this turbo to my engine right at the end of its drag racing capabilities when it comes to the fastest time it can only manage and not go any quicker. This turbo will give me more quicker spool up and response than my factory tc06 turbo, this turbo is from a Eagle Talon its a Td05h 14b turbo. I will drag race the car with all the above mentioned mods in number 3, and ill see how fast it can go.
YES > still with a factory computer, and factory air flow meter in place. YES.
Conclusion
As you can see from the above stages in performance and drag racing intentions, i have a few big Hp producing parts, but i bet when you have read this whole paragraph you have told yourself, " Why the hell doesn't he just putting everything all in one go and stop wasting time stopping and fitting new bits", the reason is, that i like to see what each and every part does to my car in the area's of quicker times, and seeing how fast each part allows.
Also i like to feel how each part goes, because that gives me a idea to what is needed to make a car go quicker in quater mile times. I wanna experience each part on itself. Obviously i introduce a new installation and add ontop of that and just building up power.
HINT - In future, ill be getting a part of my engine modified, in a way that will be able to deliver at least 100hp. In the process of getting this done, there will be very diffrent changes to this part that no other type has, it will be extreme and unique.
With the Nos, metho, turboalready used, with this engine mod done, it will be capable of doing mid to low 12 second passes.
