Nearly voted out twice, Kimberley Walsh made it through to the final five of UK show "Popstars the Rivals" and into Girls Aloud - and aren't we glad! Here are some facts on the Bradford Beauty aka the Yorkshire Sexpot.

Where's she from:
Kimberley hails from Allerton, Bradford and went to Beckfoot School in Bingley. She went on to study media at Trinity & All Saints College in Leeds - she even studied a module on "recording popular music and videos". Looks like it came in handy. One of her lecturers is quoted as saying "Kimberley has the kind of personality which will hold a band together. She's great fun and a good team player".

Date of birth: 20 November 1981
Family: Two sisters and one brother
Lives: In a flat with Nadine in London (Nadine says: "When we're at home we light our wee candles. We have the place looking really romantic and pretty - even though it's just me and Kimberley sitting there, looking round and every now and again saying to each other 'Isn't this lovely? This is ours, you know!")
Lovelife: dating Justin Scott (ex-Triple 8er) since Jan 2004
Mobile: "I've got a trendy Panasonic camera phone."
Personal style: " Comfy, but if i'm going out I'll dress up." Loves baggy jeans and vest tops.

Heroes and heroines:
Kimberley loves Destiny's Child but especially admires Beyonce Knowles, who she thinks is "fantastic". Her film heroines are the duo Thelma and Louise but her favourite film is Pretty Woman.

Actress or popstar?
Kimberley once auditioned for a role in Coronation Street.
She also appeared in ITV's Stan the Man with John Thompson of Cold Feet fame, and in CITV's Children's Ward. The acting is hopefully on the back burner now as Kimmi focuses on being a mega star with Girls Aloud.

Popstars the Rivals - Kimberley's rise to stardom
Popstars the Rivals was a show on UK television, designed to produce a girl and a boy band that would compete with each other for the coveted UK Christmas Number 1. Kimberley made it through to the last fifteen but was was not in the final ten. However, the story didn't end there. One of the girls had to leave for being too old, and Louis Walsh, now manager of Girls Aloud, wanted Kimberley to be the girl's replacement. He broke the news to Kimmi under the pretence of seeing how she was getting on after originally being rejected. "We've got a problem with one of the girls" he told her. "There are only 9 girls in the house." Come on Louis. Put the girl out of her misery. "I'm looking for the 10th and I want it to be you! You're in the house!"

Kimberley had a bit of a tough time getting into Girls Aloud. Not only was she nearly voted out twice in the "Rivals", she also had nasty tabloid gossip to contend with. But despite all that, Kimmi made the final five and now features the most in Girls Aloud's first video Sound of the Underground. Kimberley's highlight from the Rivals series was getting through to the final ten after not being in the original line up: "It's the most shock I've ever felt in my entire life."

With renditions of Emotions, Chain Reaction, Toni Braxton's Unbreak My Heart and Baby Can I Hold You, Kimberley made the final five. On Final night, Kimberely looked stunning in a purple vest top, a hip hugging skirt and knee length boots.
Louis Walsh said of one of Kimmi's performances - "she has star quality. Fab." This was seconded with thumbs up from the other judges Geri Halliwell and Pete Waterman.

Geri Halliwell thought Kimberley was very beautiful and even said that if she (Geri) was a guy, "I'd want to you know what you" much to Kimberley's laughing and blushing.

Choreographers reviewing the girls said that Kimberley was fastidious about getting things exactly right. They said that her beauty is caught on camera and of the girls, the camera loves her the most.

A top music producer analysing girls performances said, "most of them are pure Karaoke. However, analysing Kimberley he said she's NOT Karaoke, is a singer with varied vocal talent and he would work with her.

Geri sent a 9 year old girl backstage undercover and asked her afterwards, who was the girl who was the nicest to you? The answer was "Kimberley".

Geri called Kimberley an all rounder and said that “Kimberley is not the strongest vocally but the band needs characters – she’s got the J-Lo thing."

Davina added "she's got the bottom".

So that's the comparison - nothing to do with being a diva.

 


Louis on Kimberley's version of Chain Reaction: " I thought she did a fantastic performance. Well done Kimberley." Geri said:"I think that Kimberley has taken a huge amount of rap this week in the press. They got it wrong. They said she was a diva." Louis added: "We've got no divas in the band."
