Kilkeel NISC 5-a-side Tournament
Kilkeel NISC held their annual 5-aside football tournament at Mourne
Esplanade on Saturday 30th June 2007.
In fair weather conditions, the tournament attracted a bumper turnout of
over 20 teams, and kicked off as planned at 12pm.
The beer tent and BBQ was extremely busy all day as the tournament
progressed through the group stages and then on to the knock-out stages.
The final was played by Kilkeel Athletic against a very youthful Valley
Rangers side, with Kilkeel Athletic winning a closely contested match 1-0
to lift the trophy and prize money
Thanks must go to all club members, and members of the public who helped to
make the day such a success.
Thanks also to everyone who competed in the tournament, and we especially
thank Ballynahinch, Newry and Banbridge NISC's for their support, which we
hope to return in the near future.
Kilkeel NISC take part in Ballynahinch 7-aside Torunamant
Kilkeel NISC entered a team into the Ballynahinch tournament on a
gloriously sunny Saturday, the 28th July at the Langley Road playing
fields.
In fairness, more emphasis was put on having a "good day out" as opposed to
winning this tournament.
Unfortunately Kilkeel failed to score in their first three matches due to
some woeful finishing from A.Graham and N.Cousins . Some inept defending by
G.Forythe, J.Pue, and J.Anderson ensured that Kilkeel were always on the
back-foot. Only some miraculous goal-keeping from S.Houston helped keep the
scorelines respectable. However, in their final match, Kilkeel pulled off
an amazing win against Comber. A superb long-range effort from
D.C.McConnell, assisted by A.McKee saw Kilkeel record a famous 1-0 victory.
Again, the BBQ and bar facilities were availed of. Temple won the
tournament, beating Killyleagh on penalties. This was certainly another
very enjoyable day for Kilkeel NISC.
Kilkeel NISC did not come home empty-handed with A.McConnell coming away
with a beautifully crafterd coffee-maker which he won in the raffle.
The said coffee-maker has since gone missing and a reward is being offered
for it's return.
