Kilcullen Scouts was founded in 1977 - we celebrated our 30th Anniversary in 2007. Kilcullen was the first group in the country to invest a girl.

Our neckerchief is black with an amber border:

Our Scout Den was originally beside the church in Kilcullen. We moved into our new Den in the Kilcullen Community Centre in 2000.

Kilcullen currently has four sections: Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Venturers.

Shield & Phoenix

We compete in the Shield competition each May, which we have won a number of times - our most recent victory was in 2008. Patrols from our Scouts section have qualified for the Phoenix Challenge several times - most recently in 2008 and 2009.

South Kildare County Challenge Day

We also compete in the South Kildare Challenge Day, which we hosted in 2007 and 2008 and will host in 2009 - and we have qualified for (and competed in) the National Challenge Day a number of times, including in 2007 and 2008.

Occasionally we participate in the South Kildare soccer competition, and we usually attend the South Kildare Founder's Day celebrations. Also, our Beavers and Scouts attended the 2008 Irish International Jamboree in Punchestown Racecourse.

Hosted Events

Kilcullen Scouts have hosted the South Kildare Challenge Day since 2007, with several Scout teams participating and some of our Venturers on the staff. We have also hosted several other events, such as leadership training days.

Kilcullen sections have their own summer camps each year. Beavers host a sleepover; Cubs have a four-day weekend camp; Scouts and Venturers have week-long camps. The summer camps are the highlight of the year for most members - they are always fun and memorable! Recent camp venues have included Scout dens in Wicklow and Cork, campsites in Kerry, the SI Irish International Jamboree in Punchestown, and Phasels Wood Scout Centre in England.

Every Christmas, Kilcullen Scouts host the Senior Citizens' Christmas Party for senior citizens in the Kilcullen area. It is held in Toughers, Naas around the end of November. There is a two-course dinner, live music, dancing, spot prizes, and entertainment from the Scouts, such as dancing, singing and playing instruments. The event is very popular and everyone who attends has a very enjoyable evening.
