Robert Englund

1, 2, Freddy's coming for you...3,4, Better lock your door...5, 6, grab your crucifix, 7,8 gonna stay up late....9, 10 read the interview again! Robert englund is a modern legend among horror fans as one of the best known monsters to grace the silver screen...Freddy Krueger. Just in time for the highly anticapated "Freddy Vs. Jason" here comes the Robert ENglund Interview!

Marcus: So tell me, when you aren't slashing kids on Elm Street while they sleep, running from hooded killers, being chased by snakes or aliens, or running a laundry folding machine possessed by the devil....what does Robert Englund like to do in his free time? What can you tell me about yourself?

Robert:: I enjoy walking my dog, Lola, surfing, watching HBO and Showtime, traveling, especially in Italy and reading novels.

Marcus:: Before we get going, my friend Rick wants to know if you remember being on a college show named Night Cap in Orange County, CA. He said you came on and he had an interview with you on the show and he was wondering if you remembered him?
Robert:: Yes, I remember doing the show, it was fun.

Marcus::  You have been in a lot of horror movies, have you always been a big fan of horror? If so, what are your favorites? What is the worst horror film you have ever seen?
Robert::  As a kid a was a fan of horror, now I keep up so that I can talk about new movies with fans. The worst one I’ve seen was Plan 9 From Outer Space.

Marcus::  Now to Freddy,LOL, Freddy Vs. Jason...the film on everyone's mind....horror fans have been dreaming of this for years and now it is finally happening! Do you feel it lives up to the expectations for the fans? Was it everything you thought and hoped it would be? What inside info can you give us about it?

Robert:: We worked hard on the movie and respect the fans. I think fans will be happy. Look for Freddy and Jason to double team one of Destiny’s children.

Marcus:: How does it feel to slip back into the ol' Krueger outfit after al these years?

Robert::  Like putting on an old pair of gloves, er, I mean shoes. I know Freddy. I am not crazy about all that glue.

Marcus:: When you first read the Original Night mare on Elm Street script, how did you envision Freddy and how he would look? Was it anything like the end result?

Robert:: The character that was described in the script is what you saw in the movie. David Miller contributed to Wes Craven imagination.

Marcus:: People mainly know you as Freddy Krueger, do you ever get sick and tired of it? I remember you did a running gag on Mad TV  but has there ever been a time when  you just didn't want to be this "monster" anymore? How do you feel about it and the way it has changed you?

Robert:: Actors worry more about NOT being recognized. Without Freddy I would have had a good solid career as a best friend and side kick, with Freddy I have an international career, I am a leading man who “gets” the girl.

Marcus::  I have been hearing stories since I was in First grade about a Freddy Vs. Jason movie being in the works...what took so long for this film to get green lighted? Is it just me, or are we long over do for a "Vs." movie?

Robert::  Changes at New Line, changes of directors and the struggle to come up with a good script that blends the two worlds of Freddy and Jason.

Marcus:: The biggest shock with Freddy Vs. Jason was the fact that Kane Hodder was "booted" out of the Jason suit after 10 years and replaced. Now I have heard umpteen reasons for this, he was to tall, wanted more money, they didn't want him back, he had other projects...what was the REAL reason for this? How do you feel about it? And how do you think Ken Kerzinger is at filling Hodder's old role?

Robert:: Kane wasn’t “booted” The director had a different vision, he wanted a taller Jason (Ken is 6’5”). Ken made the role his own.

Marcus::. What also surprised me is the fact that the original survivors of both series' were originally said to be in this. But now....it has no Nancy Thompson, and no Tommy Jarvis...I would have thought for sure Heather Langenkamp would have been in this. Were they ever in one of the versions or were they just never thought of?

Robert::  I never read a version with those characters in it.

Marcus::. In the New Nightmare, you played Krueger and yourself, do you feel that it takes away from the terror when the audiance can see and know who is behind the mask?

Robert::. No. Besides, if you look at the credits, Freddy is played by “himself”.

Marcus::. I think my favorite one out of the series is part 3, what is y our favorite Nightmare on Elm Street? Which one did you like the least? and which did you have the most fun doing? And which one was the hardest to get through or done?

Robert::. 3 & 4 work the best as a double bill. 1& 7 are the scariest. 7 was fun because of the reunion. 2 is the worst.

Marcus::. 976-Evil was a decent film I have to say, and you did a great job directing it. Why haven't you directed anything since then? Did you just not care for the directing aspect of it all or...?

Robert:: I directed for the stage for many years. Movie directing is, ultimately, a collaborative effort, full of compromise. Acting is a lot easier.

Marcus::. One of your earlier films "Eaten Alive" has you teamed up with Tobe Hooper 2 years after Texas Chainsaw Massacre came out. What was it like working with him? Did you expect that movie to be as big as "Saw"?

Robert:: Tobe, who I have worked with many times, is brilliant and driven. We expected “Eaten Alive” to be what it is.

Marcus:: You and Wes Craven go back a long way, how did you feel about the Scream series? What does Wes think of FvJ? What is he like in real life? Are you going to be teaming up with him on any upcoming projects?

Robert::  Wes is very smart and creative. The Scream series is inventive and funny. In real life he is sly and erudite. No plans for future project.

Marcus::  What's next on your plate after Freddy Vs. Jason? A new Nightmare film perhaps? :-D
Robert::  No plans for a new Freddy movie. There have been rumors of a prequel. I would like to play Freddy  out of make-up, before he was burned.

Marcus::  Do you have anything you want to say to the millions of Freddy fans out there?
Robert:: Get a big bag of greasy popcorn and enjoy yourselves starting August 15.
