My Rating:

                 "::sneezes::...Sorry, I'm allergic to bullshit."~Spooner

   After Will Smith's last epic multi hundred million sci flick MIB II sucked major donkey dick, I wasn't expecting to much out of this film. But once I saw the trailer I said, this could either be really good, or be pure shit. Luckily, it was the first thought that it ended up becoming and turned out to be rather a decent flick. The special effects in this movie are anything less then incredible and the action sequences are sweet. But it also has a solid plot to accompany it as well as a couple of good plot twists. So what is this movie about?

   Spooner (Will Smith) is a police officer in the year 2035, by this year, robots have become a part of everyday life. They are the Fedex guy, your companion, your friend, Spooner hates them with a passion. When a scientist commits suicide, something doesn't sit right with Spooner especially when he finds a robot hiding in the room. It becomes his main suspect but it seems the company doesn't want something to get out, some secret that they are afraid Sonny the robot may in fact know. I don't want to give to much away cause with my luck I will say something that ruins it and yeah...don't feel like listening to people bitch.

   I,ROBOT is a very entertaining film, it's not the greatest and while it may feel like it is trying to be a Blade Runner or Terminator 2, it doesn't in fact rip anything off. Thing I would have liked to see would have been more interaction with Sonny maybe...there were also a bunch of meaningless clues that when you find out what they all meant then you ask yourself, why couldn't this have just been TOLD to the character? Why did he have to follow all these lame ass clues like some poorly written scooby doo mystery?

   Will Smith is not at the top of his game in this, to be honest, I saw no difference between Spooner or Agent J or Capt. Steve Hiller. I think he could have done better but still, he does good enough to keep my interest. The comedy bit he does in this is pretty worn out though, it felt forced except for a couple of jokes. Bridget Moynahan as Susan does a decent job, I really didn't go either way on this one. Wasn't to thrilled with her, didn't dislike her. Alan Tudyk as Sonny the robot does some decent voice over work and kept me entertained throughout. Bruce Greenwood was underused in this movie, I think he should have had more screen time for he was the one who I really wanted to see more of.

   As for directing, Alex Proyas (Crow, Dark City) pulls through with style in this one. Action sequences were done very well and the slick camera movements in the end scenes were nice. Also the car sequence in the tunnel was great. Loved it! Great job.

   As for gore, we mainly get robot carnage in this, some nice robot carnage though, but aside from robots being ripped apart, sliced, crushed, and such, we get a bloody mouth, dead corpse, and some mechanical arm damage.

   As for nudity, we get to see Bridget in a fogged up shower and the ladies get Will Smith showing his chest 20 times in the movie and his butt more times then I cared to see. And the robots get sonny's naked body and his blue eyes. Wow...

   I say, I, ROBOT isn't THE blockbuster movie of the summer, but its one that shouldn't be missed. The special effects are amazing in this film and the fight sequences are nothing less then that. Check this flick out it's worth it, or you could just go see catwoman and then be laughed at by everyone else as you walk out of the theatre. Up to you really.

Special Guest Reviewers:

George Newman

"So let me get this straight, 31 years from now, robots will be a part of our everyday life, we will have hover cars with mouse balls as wheels, Holographic A.I. recorders, hover cars that drive themselves, and yet, we will still be wearing the same kind of clothes we do now and sporting Converse shoes, like the ones you would wear in the early 90's. Makes sense I guess..."
