I was so excited when I opened my mail box and found this moviein it. I had been hearing so many good things about it, and the cast alone astounded me. After watching it, however, I really wish they had spent the money on the sets instead of the big name actors. That way they would not have ended up with cheesy sets that looked like cheap renditions of FUN HOUSES.

Abominable is a cross between a cheesy low budget monster flick and Alfred Hitchcock’s Rear Window. When the movie first started, I kept asking myself "Why wasn't this movie in theatres?" Halfway through the film I was able to see why: this movie sports some of the worst lighting ever. How the hell was it so fucking bright in the middle of the woods?! Thing is, Abominable is the first movie I have ever seen that takes BIGFOOT and makes him into something to be feared, not some big cuddly buddy you would allow to hang out with your kid. This movie brought back good old memories of those cheesy horror films of the past. The one’s that just don't get made anymore unless tons of shitty CGI is used and it contains John Rhys Davies fighting off an over sized panther!

Now the premise of the movie you ask? Preston Rogers was in a mountain climbing accident that left him a paraplegic. Now, a year later, Preston is released from the hospital and is brought back to the place where it all happened. There, Preston, his hospital friend, Otis, and a group of hot girls become prey to the Abominable. Can Preston survive or will he be doomed to become another story told at campfires while discussing the urban legend of BIGFOOT.

The movie has a really good story line to it that isn't something you usually see in a lot of horror films that deal with BIGFOOT. Usually we get those sappy family movies where BIGFOOT is a misunderstood monster who becomes a part of the family and hilarity ensues trying to hide him. Well, fortunately for horror fans and those who do enjoy keeping our last meal down, Ryan decides to take Mr. Henderson and give him a mean ass diet that strictly consists of humans and family dogs. Poor Sparky :(

Acting wise, this movie has its strong points but also some weak links. Matt McCoy does an outstanding job as Preston Rogers the paraplegic mountain climber who has been forced to come back and face his fears only to obtain new hairy ones. He was the glue that held this movie together if you ask me and I was routing for him from the get go. Haley Joel played Amanda, one of the hot girls, and I really felt her character was completely a "Fill In" character. She served no purpose other then to have eye candy on the screen but hey I wasn't complaining while watching this. Christien Tinsley played Otis and he does a good job in the small role he had. Jeffrey Combs played BUDDY The Clerk. At first I had no clue it was him, and that’s a good sign because it means the actor can act. Jeffrey Combs was great, witty, and hysterical in this movie, great job Mr. Combs! Dee Wallace Stone is in this movie for all of 3 seconds in a "Don't blink or you will miss E.T.'s mom" role but it was great seeing her again. Lance Henrieksen is great to see no matter what and he plays a hunter named Zeiglar Dane, small part, but hey it was worth seeing him in this. Paul Gleason (who unfortunately passed away recently due to mesothelioma) plays Sheriff Halderman and while it's still a very small cameo, it was great seeing him in this. Directing wise, Ryan was able to pull several cheap scares which got to me. There was one especially that involves a certain someone being a peeping tom...you will know what I mean when you see it. Great atmosphere and great angles, Ryan Schifrin is a director to look out for. My only complaint, as I said before, is that the set was done extremely cheesy and made it feel like a low grade movie. Aside from that though, great work.

Gore wise...this movie is gory but not AS gory as I had hoped. We do however get an exposed rib/hip (fucking nice), a face bitten off (EXTREMELY NICE!), a body bent in half and ripped through a wall, and a person stomped to death. Nudity wise...we get low budget actress Tiffany Shepis doing what she does in all her films, showing us her boobs and butt. It was nice of her to do it again for us in this one.

I say, ABOMINABLE is a film that works because of what it is, a movie about a killer hairy monster living in the woods that goes hairy carey on people. You can't expect Shakespeare from this, but you can expect to be entertained. Although I enjoyed this movie I did feel the movie fell short in some parts (i.e. the 3rd quarter with the girls). Maybe it was the fact that we don’t know anything about the girls besides the fact that they are female...and they do what females do...I think. Check this movie out though, it's worth the watch and the gore is pretty sweet.

"Am I the only one who thought BIG FOOT in this movie had a strong resemblence to Bam Margera's father, Phil?"
