The Things We Do To Survive Financially

 Kindred Haven Integrated Community Care System is a Community Land Trust Style project with Co-Housing/Co-Op type resident "codes." Our purpose is to have our community and its residents become as self-reliant and self-sufficient as possible while maintaining the spirit of family. This is the idea behind utilizing cottage industry type businesses here. Small, personal, and/or homebased businesses give individuals and families financial security as well as pride in themselves and each other. KHICCS's  "funds generators" include:

Magician's Inn     A B&B where Mother Nature is the magician and she is always 'inn.' Planned to be on several acres with beautiful views Magician's Inn will be a full service B&B and the temporary home of Hands of Haven.

Kindred Haven Community Land Trust  A mixed income community utilizing Co-Housing/Community Land Trust/Co-op type 'codes' for mixed income families in a holistic environment.

Hands of Haven  A Reiki Massage Therapy Clinic utilizing healing energy and massage techniques to aid in the repair of aches and pains temporarily located in Magician's Inn.

Haven's Harvest The farmer's market established to sell the excess yield of our community supported agricultural projects. Haven's Harvest Coalition will donate products to local food banks as well.

Kindred Kampgrounds A public campground and gathering place for community events.

 KayBrid Dragonware  & Haven Scent   Retail outlets for collectible gifts and handmade crafts, bath and body products, and jewlery.

Things We Do To Educate The Children

Nursery and PreSchool programs will be developed as determined by community and regional need 

Kindred Kids EcoAdventurers Kindred Kids is a low cost, rotating three year, home-school type program designed to educate children 5-17 on literacy, cultural/historical exploration, character, responsibility, environmental issues, decision-making, and leadership skills, as well as craft and living skills. The learning program will be coordinated with KHICCS's 12 annual public events providing educational reinforcement and "fun"-draising for various community and regional organizations. The study program:

YEAR ONE     Greenhouse 

SPRING: Preparing for planting, building with plants (bean pole lodge), grape arbor/strawberry pyramid, children's garden, character counts project.

SUMMER: Cooking and eating, arts and crafts with food, exploring nature, hiking, plant/animal identification.

FALL: Game making, preserving foods, Eastern Native American culture/crafts, alternative materials building methods.

WINTER: Seasonal fun, drawing, painting, journaling, eco-system project

YEAR TWO          Character Building

SPRING: Strange plants, plants for decorating, children's garden, leadership project.

SUMMER: Playing with food in nature, arts and crafts with flowers, character counts project.

FALL: Bead art, fiber art, Central Native American culture/crafts, alternative materials building methods.

WINTER: Seasonal fun, painting, sculpture, eco-system project.

YEAR THREE         Survival Skills

SPRING: Animal husbandry, photagraphy/art in nature, self-reliance building

SUMMER: Outdoor survival [ex:leave no trace,] nature trail construction and maintenance, hiking, camping, eco-system studies.

FALL: Western Native American culture/crafts, leadership skills project, character counts project, alternative materials building methods.

WINTER: Writing workshops, paper making, book construction, theater, winter survival skills.

 

Things We Do To Educate The Adults

Kindred Konfidantes A low cost educational program designed to educate adults with programs similar to the children's program with a focus on life skills training in a home school environment. The study program:

YEAR ONE     Practical Studies 

SPRING: Planting vegetables [esp native to the area,] edible flowers, space saving gardening, music and dance, character/leadership building, life skills training.

SUMMER: Crafts with naturals, water conservation, eco-system studies, stories and culture, life skills training, alternative materials building methods.

FALL: Preparing for winter, methods of staying warm and dry, practical crafting, using the harvest, alternative materials building methods.

WINTER: Holiday preparations, growing indoors, journaling and dreamwork, winter survival skills.

YEAR TWO      Local History/Culture

SPRING: Fruits and bulbs, composting year round, local history, genealogy, character/leadership building.

SUMMER: Cooking for special diets, planting alternatives [hydroponics...], eco-system project, life skills training.

FALL: Harvesting, preserving, winterizing environment and self, alternative materials building methods.

WINTER: Jewelry, beading, wall hangings for warmth and aesthetics, poetry, life skills training.

YEAR THREE          Ecological Topics

SPRING: Ornamentals and herbs, herbal uses, year round permaculture, life skills training, alternative materials building methods.

SUMMER: Beginning brewing, natural fiber arts, natural first aid, life skills training.

FALL: Weaving for fun and utility, beginning ceramics, character/leadership building.

WINTER: Embroidery, cross stitching, recycling, vinegars and oils, prose writing, alternative materials building methods.

 

 

Community Outreach

Kindred Haven Integrated Community Care System will be operating outreach programs such as:

Tattered Sky Youth Summit designed to aid youth in crisis with councelling, "fresh air" type programs, and inclusion in Kindred Kids and more.

Twelve (12) Annual Community Events designed to promote cultural education, exploration, and tolerance, and phlianthropy. Events will include FoodFest, Living History, and Native American Pow-Wows.

Kindred Konscience newsletter filled with KHICCS happenings, local and regional events, environmental and political news.

Haven's Harvest Coalition is KHICCS food and supply donation coalition.
