The founders of Kindred Haven Integrated Community Care System began as a group of friends that became separated by a number of economic and familial reasons and who desired the capability of visiting each other more than one time per year. Looking into a variety of methods to accomplish this; we discovered that proximity to each other was not the ONLY thing our spirits desired.
Out of the desire to be near each other AND be able to support our respective families grew the idea that by undertaking certain tasks for and with each other we would also be able to aid other families who ALSO desired a more sustainable, self reliant, compassionate, participatory community and our circle would grow.
We have researched and/or practiced basic skills and decided what we believe a community would need to do to become enivronmentally friendly and self reliant. We are not trying to be fanatics, zealots, wackos or tyrants in any of our policies. We will try to be as flexible as possible within a few predetermined guidelines. KHICCS will be instituting these guidelines, which we believe will help members and prospective members [and to teach/show the public at large] how to live a less complicated life more in tune with others and treating Mother Earth with a gentler hand without extrordinary government dependence.
Kindred Haven Integrated Community Care System is also concerned with Constitutional rights and with private property rights and is currently devising a system to incorporate a 15 year "lease-to-purchase" program as one of the Community's residential components.
We have determined that KHICCS can obtain grants and low interest loans in order to get most of the essential projects underway except for Land Acquisition. SO...
We have devised a land acquisition fundraising campaign utilizing our own artwork, craft items, and several natural, organic, or sustainable products. We have several new products available, including handmade soaps and hemp or cotton 'body washers'. All purchases and donations are tax deductible to the fullest extent of the law. Please visit our fundraising page for available items. Please feel free to contact us about purchases, donations and/or joining our community: kinhav4u@care2.com MtnLrlBBW@aol.com or newriverreiki@netscape.com
Kindred Haven Integrated Community Care System is a non-profit Community Land Trust organization that has been proposed to benefit all functions of life: mind, body, and spirit.
To challenge the mind, KHICCS has developed/adapted adult and children educational programs to focus on character building, life skills such as literacy, and environmental considerations with a home school-style influence. A synopsis of our 40 week per year; 1-3 meeting per week program is elsewhere on this site.
Of benefit to the body are proposed hikes, garden/picnic area maintenance programs, sweat equity requirements, community agricultural ventures, cottage industry business initiatives including Rieki/Massage Therapy, and eco-friendly, sustainable projects which will be overseen by Kindred Haven residents.
To assuage the spirit, crisis counseling, youth hospice, meditation gardens, community outreach events, self-reliance reinforcement, fundraising and donation coalitions, and biweekly community-wide gatherings have been designed.
Kindred Haven Integrated Community Care System plans to collaborate with local programs already in place to compliment that which is needed in the area in which KHICCS comes to fruition.
These are the five principles of traditional community living on which KHICCS is determined to focus:
1)EDUCATION: advocating children and adult workshops focusing on a variety of subjects: including character, responsibility, literacy, cultural/historical exploration, nature, and craft and living skills
2)
SELF_RELIANCE: thru life skills training, character building sessions, cottage industry business initiatives, and community supported agricultural projects.3)
ENVIRONMENTAL AWARENESS: by prominent use of sustainable building materials and energy sources, multi-use plant/animal specimens, recycle programs, wildlife preservation presentations, ecosystem studies, sustainable living techniques workshops, and eco-tourism.4)
PARTICIPATION: in sweat equity, community programs, and family, local, and regional events.5)
PHILANTHROPY: through community service ventures and charitable donation and fundraising events for local and regional organizations
