My aim is to breed pure arabians with correct conformation, classical movement, trainable temperments, enough type for the halter ring and enough strength to be trained to a higher than average level. The combination of Egyptian, Russian and Crabbet blood is what I believe will combine to create a horse with all of the above attributes. I am not looking to get into breeding commercially, merely as a way to develop the type of arab I want to ride. I occasionally take horses for training, either in hand or under saddle. After experiencing European training methods while working for Margo and Harry Boldt for 7 years, I've been able to apply them to arabians, and gotten the same results as with the warmbloods. Getting the basics correct at the beginning makes all the difference, no matter what breed of horse you ride.

Will see me becoming a Trainee Dressage Judge, and sitting exams to become an H level Judge. As Shakhaan's first twelve months under saddle will be fairly quiet with work sessions spaced apart as needed, I realised that now would be a good time to do this, as many of my weekends will be free. It also helps me to get more involved in the sport I love, and help others with honest, positive critiques of their performances. The lunches that are put on for judges aren't too shabby, either! I see this as just another step in the learning process, in my quest to become as skilled an equestrian as possible, in order to attain the levels of success I desire for myself and my horses.
October 2006
Exams have been sat, and I'm pleased to announce that I'm now an Official Dressage Judge!
