Thank you to everybody for making the competition such a great success today. As promised please below a full copy of the scores from todays competition. Please note coaches will also be emailed and posted a copy the scores.
There is only a week to go until the competition – we hope preparations are going well and we look forward to seeing you all again this year and to meet the new clubs entering for the first time.
For your information please see below a copy of the programme and details of the running order for the day.
As we have had a record entry it will be a longer competition than usual, I hope you will bear with us and assist us as much as possible in keeping the competition running along smoothly.
See in particular the note on the program about rolling warm-ups which we are going to try this year for the first time at our competition. Hopefully this will help the gymnasts and coaches in large pools and also keep the competition running as smoothly as possible.
Finally we all hope you have a great day and enjoy what we will try and make as friendly a competition as possible.
Yours in sport,
Keith Aikman Competition Organiser & Club Coach, Kirkcaldy Gymnastics Club

KGC Annual Competition 2009: Entry form now online
Please see below the rules and entry form for our annual competition. This year it is being held on Sunday 15th March 2009, in Kirkcaldy High School.
The committee and coaches do hope you can manage along again this year and help to make our competition as successful and enjoyable as it has been in recent ears. We do look forward to seeing you all each year in what we hope is as welcoming and relaxed an atmosphere as is possible at a competition.
The entry fees are up slightly on previous years due to many increased costs over recent years. Sorry about this but they have been the same for seven years and are still one of the cheapest. They are £7 per gymnast and £10 per team.
This year to try and stimulate an increased entry to the older boys age groups the floor for the under 12 and over 12 boys will be as the Scottish M.A. beginner and intermediate floor rules, (without the B somis for safety reasons). Any clubs who have not been involved in the construction of these boys routines previously please e-mail or telephone for any guidance and advice you may require. The vaults will be the same as the girls competition.
If you have any questions, suggestions, require further information or clarification of any points, please do not hesitate to call or e-mail.
Yours in sport,
Keith Aikman Club Coach, Kirkcaldy Gymnastics Club

Well done to everybody who took part in the KGC Annual Christmas Colouring Competition. This year we received an excellent number of entries across the three age groups: 5, 6 and & 7's, the 8 & 9's and the over 10's. The level of skill and creativity was incredible and made the judges job very difficult. The winners were announced and festive prizes awarded last Wednesday at the fun session.
For a full list of winners and runners-up in each of the age groups and to view the winning entries see below:
The gym has now finished for the holidays and will resume as normal once the schools go back. In the meantime, on behalf of everybody at Kirkcaldy Gym Club we would like to wish everybody a very merry Christmas.

The secretary is waiting for everyone to pay before registering all of our gymnasts. The membership covers insurance, membership of British Gymnastics, Scottish Gymnastics and Kirkcaldy Gymnastics Club.
Thanks to everyone who has paid promptly.
NEW Club Tracksuit A new club tracksuit has been selected with a new KGC logo. Samples have been tried on by a selection of gymnasts and coaches so the committee could decide the range of sizes and quantities to order. The tracksuits will be a navy cotton shell, with white piping; the logo has white writing around a turquoise star. Prices have yet to be finalised by the committee.
Sponsored Obstacle Course Following the success of the first sponsored obstacle course last year, we have decided to hold it again this year. Last year the gymnasts who took part thoroughly enjoyed it, so we will follow the same format; a challenge of a set number of laps within a time limit, completed in groups and adjusted for age and ability. Following this there will be a timed lap with a final to see who can complete it in the shortest time. This year we have added an incentive to participation. The incentive will be a discount off the price of a tracksuit for everyone handing in their sponsor sheet and money. Monday and Thursday gymnasts are welcome to take part on either the Wednesday night or Sunday afternoon sessions. The obstacle course will be held on Wednesday 19th November and Sunday 23rd November. Sponsor money should be handed in by Wednesday 26th November for the discount and to be entered into the lucky prize draw.
Monthly Standing Order Payments Please note that standing order payments should have been set at £20 per month for each Monday, Wednesday, Thursday or Sunday session attended, from the 1st September. There still appears to be a few discrepancies in payments for October. Could everyone please check their bank statements to ensure the correct fees are being paid. If you know of or notice any problems with your standing orders please see Nancy or Elizabeth. If the standing order has not been set up in time £20 should be paid for the month.
Leotards Club leotards for girls cost £40 for sizes/ages 5 – 13 and £45 for over 13’s. Leotards are also available for the boys. These are only essential if competitions are to be entered, but they can make a great present for Christmas or a birthday. We have ordered in new stock for the club these are expected soon.

Competition Well done to Sandy Wallace and Greg Johnston who did very well at the Scottish MA floor and vault competition last weekend. Greg was second in the under 8 beginners, and Sandy was first yet again in the Intermediate under 14’s. Sandy also won the mushroom challenge again, for the third competition in a row. Finally Sandy was one of only two gymnasts to achieve a Gold Award certificate for scoring over 25, while Greg did very well too for an under 8 gaining his first Silver Award certificate by scoring over 24.

Training, Fun Night and Summer Holidays..
Well done to everyone who took part in the Club Championships and made them so enjoyable and such a success. There was a very high standard of competition, and I am sure the spectators who supported all the gymnasts so well, thoroughly enjoyed the competition. Thanks also to all the helpers for assisting with the smooth running of the event. Copies of the scores are available in the results section of the website for anyone who has not seen them yet.
We will still be training for two more weeks, finishing on Wednesday 2nd July 2008. This will be our usual fun night and all welcome even if you do not normally attend on Wednesdays, lots of games and challenges, maybe even a few prizes, and a swing or two.
We will resume sessions on Wednesday 20th August 2008 after the schools have started back again. All wee brothers and sisters that are now old enough can start that night as long as Nancy or Elizabeth knows about them.
The committee are currently deciding fees for the next year and you will be informed before the end of this term and issued with new Standing Order information sheets.
The coaches and committee would therefore like to take this chance to wish everybody a good holiday and we look forward to seeing you all back after the summer.

KGC Club Championships 2008: Scores now available online..
Well done to everyone who took part in the competition today and made the Club Championships so enjoyable and such a success. There was a very high standard of competition, and I am sure the spectators who supported all the gymnasts so well, thoroughly enjoyed the competition. A big thank you also goes to everybody who helped out on the day making the day possible. See below for a full copy of the day's scores and a summary of the prize winners.
This year the Club Championships will be held on Sunday 15th June in
the Games Hall at Kirkcaldy High School. This is a regular event for the club now, this
year will be our tenth. Our gymnasts contest enthusiastically for the
trophies, yet everyone has a chance to win. It is also an ideal format
for parents to see their child's progress in the friendly setting of
our own club. All parents, friends and relatives; are encouraged to
come along and support the gymnasts. They compete in small pools
(groups) of similar ability and age. There are certificates for every
gymnast, medals for all group winners and quite a few trophies. The
coaches normally expect everyone who is available to enter.
There is a buffet after the competition for all gymnasts, coaches,
helpers, and spectators. Charges will be kept to a minimum as usual and
the event is subsidised by the club; entry fee £5 per gymnast,
admission charge (including buffet and program) of only £5. Payable as
soon as possible so the program can be made up. Spectators must also
purchase tickets by Wednesday 11th June, so that the correct catering
arrangements can be made.
New Gymnasts Even our recent recruits, who have all been assessed by
the coaches, will be capable of taking part. They will be able to do a
simple floor routine and the vault for their age group. The rules for
our competition are designed to level out differences in skills and
experience and the scores are more dependant on aesthetic performance
of what you can do. Even the new five and six year olds will be able to
take part using six moves from a list of basic moves that many children
are capable of in a very short time. All recently started gymnasts
should attend regularly between now and the competition though. New
gymnasts will not require a leotard for this competition, plain tee
shirt (not baggy - no football strips) and shorts (not long, baggy or
Bermudas) are all that is required. New parents should take this
opportunity to view some of what can be achieved in gymnastics by our
more experienced and older gymnasts.
Extra Training Sessions There will be extra training sessions
organised for Sundays before the competition, specifically to work on
routines and vaults for the Club Championships. All welcome. £5 per
session payable each Sunday. They will be held on Sunday 25th May, Sunday 1st
June and Sunday 8th June, from 12.30 - 2.30pm. Trophies Will last years trophy winners please ensure that they have
the trophies engraved if applicable, polished and gleaming; and
remember to bring them along on the day of the competition.

Fife Network Development Competition - Scores Online
Well done to everyone who competed at the Fife Network Development Competition on Sunday (18th May 2008). Everybody did very well and the coaches were delighted with the standard of the performances on the day - many of which were rewarded with medals making the competition a very successful day overall. See below or the Results section of the website for a full set of scores.
Thanks to everyone who attended the club A.G.M. on Wednesday night - it is appreciated by the committee and coaches. It is very good to see some of the newer parents and also parents of younger gymnasts joining the committee. Just a pity there are no males on the committee this year!
The new committee was elected and is as listed below for your information.
KGC Annual General Meeting - Wednesday 7th May 2008
The Clubs A.G.M. will be held on Wednesday 7th May at 6.45 pm in KHS library.
The committee would like to invite all interested parents along to the clubs A.G.M.
Please come along and hear the various progress reports including
financial statement, coaches report, and child protection update. The
financial report will include the amounts made by the club at our
recent competition, other fund raising and the progress of the standing
order payments. We desire your attendance because the club values your
opinions and also our constitution requires the attendance of
non-committee members at the A.G.M. Some of the current committee have
served for years and although some are still willing to stand for
re-election, there are reasons that others must step down. It always
does help if there is some new blood on the committee each year. This
would mean attendance at a few meetings a year and some extra work
around the time of our Open competition and our Club Championships.
Please remember it is your gymnastics club. Refreshments will be
provided.

Scottish Boys 2 Piece Competition - Saturday 27 October 2007
At the Scottish MA two piece competition for boys yesterday our entry did very well as usual. Greg and Calum did their best in the largest group of the day the under
8 beginners, with Greg finishing in the top 10 not far off the scores
of the winners. Well done boys.
Sandy for the third competition in a row won the Intermediate under
12's, the older boys in the under 14's should be worried about next
year when he moves up the age groups.
They also had a mushroom challenge at the competition where all
the boys attempted as many consecutive double leg circles as possible.
Sandy with one of the highest scores of the day ended up in the final
with two older and much bigger guys from Falkirk. Being the gentleman
he is (from KGC remember) he allowed them to go first and watched them
manage 34 and I think 38, he then got on the mushroom with a real
determination in his circles and to the biggest cheer of the day by an
appreciative audience he easily overtook their totals amassing what
must have been 50. I lost count in the excitement. Well done Sandy a
real show of Kirkcaldy character!

New Judges - Congratulations
Janette and Johnathon Pow attended their Mens Artistic judging course
at the weekend. After a weekends intensive work they sat their exams
late on Sunday afternoon, and both passed. So Janette has been
revalidated under the new code at Regional Judge Level as she was
previously, and Johnathon at his first attempt was top of the class and
passed the Regional level with distinction. An outstanding performance,
well done Jocky.
Emma Christie who has been patiently waiting for her Club Coach
examination results just heard yesterday that she has passed. So that
is another Club Coach to add to our coaching team, well done Emma.

FGN AGM - Tuesday 19th June 2007
The Annual General Meeting of the Fife Gymnastics Network is being held on Tuesday 19th June at 7pm at Carnegie Leisure Centre. We must be represented at this meeting to ensure Kirkcaldy Gym Club (one of the largest member clubs) can have an input. Anyone from the club is welcome to attend - coaches, judges, parents and committee members. If you fancy going along there is probably a car or two going already - please get in touch with Keith (clubcoach@kirkcaldygymclub.org).
The Clubs A.G.M. will be held on Wednesday 9th May at 6.45 pm in Kirkcaldy High School.
Your attendance is required because the committee cannot hold an A.G.M. without the attendance of non-committee members. Most of the current committee have served for years and although some are still willing to stand for re-election, there are others who wish to step down. It really does help if there is some new blood on the committee each year. The committee could even be enlarged again if there were a few more willing to join and help. This would mean attendance at a few meetings a year and some extra work around the time of our Open competition and our Club Championships.
So please come along and hear the various progress reports including the total raised for the club at our recent competition.
Can all Monday gymnasts please remember that there will no training on Monday 7th May. This is a local holiday and therefore the school will be closed.

Levenmouth Competition
Well done to all our gymnasts who competed at the Levenmouth
competition on Sunday. Kerrie was very pleased with all the
performances at a competition with many of a very high standard. Our Boys did
particularly well with Greg Johnston winning his first competition, the
6/7's and receiving a super trophy. Well done Greg, sorry I missed it
because of my work. In the same age group Callum Anderson came third
winning his first individual medal in Open competition. Then in the
next age group the 8/9's Thomas Cameron also won Bronze. So well done
boys!

Easter Holidays
Just
a quick note to remind everyone that the gymnastics is on as usual on
Mondays and Wednesdays over the school Easter holidays. Only difference is that
we will not get our usual early start on Mondays. So for the next two Mondays
do not turn up until about 6pm.
Please also remember that the new month starts next week and the monthly fees
will be due again.
Finally, from everybody at Gym Club we hope you all have a great holiday
whatever you get up to and wish everybody a very Happy Easter.

As well as email and posting out the entry forms and competition details as usual, this year we are also making all competition forms and resources avaiable to download and print off from our website. So if your require any additional copies of rules or more entry forms please see the pdf below.
The committee and coaches do hope as many clubs as possible can manage along again this year and help to make our competition as successful and enjoyable as it has been in recent years. We look forward to seeing a good turnout again this year in what we hope is as welcoming and relaxed an atmosphere as is possible at a competition.

Changes to Payment of Fees
The committee has been discussing fees recently and are proposing
monthly payments for all gymnasts in the New year. This will mean
payment at the beginning of the month of £16 for one session per week
and £32 per week if two sessions are attended. If this is successful
they will consider monthly payments through the bank in future. This is
in line with many clubs and organisations including other local
gymnastics clubs, although we are still the cheapest.
Many of our
gymnasts are very erratic attendees and part of the rationale behind
this is to encourage regular attendance because the club has weekly
running costs, irrespective of whether or not gymnasts attend
regularly. We also still have a significant waiting list and wish to
maximise club membership and sporting opportunities for local children.
This can only be done when we can accurately predict attendance at
particular sessions.
If anyone has any issues or comments to make about
this proposal, or will have any problems please speak to a member of
the committee.

KGC Open Competition - Date Confirmed
We have a date for our annual Open Competition, it will be held on Sunday 4th March 2007 in Kirkcaldy High School.
As usual we will be entering as many gymnasts as possible, if they can do the vault for their age group and a floor routine. All entered gymnasts must have a club leotard for this competition. Only limitation is children must be at least six years old to enter Open competitions. Please keep this date free it is our biggest day of the year, and apart from the gymnasts attendance we need parents to help. If you have any questions please speak to one of the coaches or a committee member or alternatively contact us through the website.

Fife Schools Gymnastics Competition
We have just successfully hosted the Fife Schools gymnastics competition on Sunday 19th November, in Kirkcaldy HIgh School.
Kirkcaldy Gym Club members did very well for their various schools on
the day, but the outstanding performance of the day was by the
Kirkcaldy High School A team which won the Level 2 (advanced section).
Their team consisted of Kirkcaldy gymnasts Jade Tullis and Johnathon
Pow accompanied by sisters Hannah and Jenni Leigh from Balwearie Gym
Club. Congratulations to the KHS team and good luck when you represent
Fife in the Scottish finals.
At the Scottish Mens Artistic 2-piece Championships held in Perth on
the 9th September. We were very successful with both our gymnasts, who
were entered in the more difficult Intermediate section of the
competition winning their age groups. Sandy Wallace won the under 12
age group and Johnathon Pow won the over 12 age group. Both of them
gave exceptional displays on floor and vault to win quite comfortably
at what was the First Annual Scottish Finals for this format of
competition. Well done boys.

Club Championships 2006 Results
Thanks very much to all of the
coaches, committee and gymnasts for your hard work yesterday and in
the lead up to the competition. Although we had moments in the last
few weeks when we thought the entry might be poor, it all came good
in the end and we even overcame the added complication of a closure
of the High School on Wednesday night.
It was gymnastically and organisationally a very successful day. How
many gymnastic competitions have we been to that have actually finished
early!? This is testament to having a great team of committee, helpers,
coaches and judges working together to ensure everyone enjoys the day.
The centre staff also did a great job over the weekend with George (Dod)
having the hall set up perfectly before we arrived to help on Saturday,
and the buffet provided by Iris and the cafe staff was excellent, they
seem to have raised their standards again. I will pass on our appreciation
of the centre and cafe staff to Norrie when he returns from holiday.
And of course well done to all
of the gymnasts who took part in today's competition, for a lot of whom
was their first ever competition. We hope everybody enjoyed the competition
and we look forward to seeing you all again after the summer holidays
once the schools go back.
