3Bs Soul Club - Stafford Rangers FC

Dude - South Derby

1st DJ Spot

Years ago, Burton Rugby Club for Pete Allsopp, double decked with an up & coming DJ Chris Anderson.

 Best DJ Spot

I loved them all, but the best for me on a personal note, for the great atmosphere and crowd its gotta be The Bretby Club and The Mars Bar spots, these stand out.

DJ Residency

Nothing at the moment but did a year at the Ashby WMC a few years back until it folded.

Top 5 all time favorites.

This is proberly one of the toughest things to quote, as this can vary like the weather.

5.  Dean Courtney - (Love) You just can't walk away

Favorate Venues

Oddfellows Club in Leicester, my first all-nighter (Sept '83) never missed one from then until it ended of cause.  Top of the World - Stafford, my kinda music, Keele all-nighters always envious of my best mate at the time Mad Mick (RIP) because he manahed to DJ there on one occasion.

Recently, The Ritz, just a shit hot venue and DJs to match and I met Jennifer there as well.  Present venue, well its got to be Middleton All-nighters with their progressive music and upfront DJs.

DJ Influences

Dave Evison for playing great sets with records even I can't afford to buy.

Keb Darge, just awesome with his 60s newies at Stafford

Soul Sam, still finding new discoveries after all these years

Bob Hinsley, not for only what he playsbut hyes always got the time and interest what you've been /playing and how you are keeping.

Dave Rimmer, after getting myself into a bit of a state through nerves at the Mars Bar Club, a big arm and a few words of wisdom from the big fellow chilled me out, I'll never forget that, thanks again Dave, respect.

DJ PROFILE

Tony Foster - Stoke on Trent

BEST VENUES PLAYED AT.

The legendary Tonys Empress Ballrom, Blackburn which I did for quite a while, many thanks to Little Scotty and Mick.

Hyde and Droylsden all-nighters, these were absolutely superb.  Great line ups and quality soul music.  Superb to play with these guys. dj-ing that is, snigger, snigger - Mark Bicknell, Butch, Roger Banks, Ginger Taylor, Pete Hollander, Bob Hindsley and Gary Spencer - Mark Bicknell put on some of the finest all-nighters in the 90's.

The Dells at Trentham Gardens must have been one of the best nights I have done.  Did the first spot in the main room and then a 4am spot in the modern room.

One of the best soul nights I was involved with was at Crewe Alex.  This was always apacker and a leader in the soul scene in the 90's, great to play along side Keith Williams (SoulSearcher Records).

Locally, the Queens soul nights in Basford, Stoke with Keith Mishull, a soul night playing club classics and modern soul.

TOP 5 ALL TIME FAVOURITE SOUNDS

It's very hard to narrow it down, probaly the following although it does change quite often

1.  Terry Callier - Look at me now

2.  Servicemenn - Sweet Magic

3.  Ray Agee - I'm losing again

4.  Masqueraders - Thats the same ting

5.  Del Larks - Job Opening

FAVOURITE VENUES

Over the years there have been many excellent venues all brilliant in there own way.  My number one favourite would have to be the 100 club, a superb all-nighter with Butch, Mick Smith and Ady spinning some serious 45s.

The Casino was my first all-nighter back in 1978, the atmosphere was electricfying and so was the Ritz both packed to the rafters.  Staffords Top of the World and the Ritz with there bouncy dance floor and not to forget Tonys Empress Ballroom of course.

At present my favourite venue is Stokes Town Hall all-nighters and for soul nights its got to be the 3Bs Soul Club bases at Stafford Rangers FC in Stafford and J11, don't miss either, if you've got soul these are the venues for you.

DJ INFLUENCES

Butch would have to be one of my main influences, the master of rare 45s, this guy just works his nuts off discovering new tunes and has a sales box better than most peoples own record collection.

Gary Spencer was absolute first class DJ playing top quality soul.  Always remenber when Gary was djing in Manchester one night and he was playing this record covered up and his first time out with it, my mate Shute went up to him and told him what it was, artist, title, label the works, he had to uncover it there and then, don't think he was to pleased at the time.  The 45 was, The First Grade-Please Come Back - Frog Records.

Bob Hindsley, a personal friend and fellow DJ who I have never forgotten, put me on a soul night in Manchester.  Bob without a doubt has a first class choice in soul music.  No dodgy tunes with this guy.

Soul Sam, you only have to talk to Sam to know he still has loads of enthusiasm for the soul scene, a collector/DJ and a lover of the big rarity Ellipsis - People, was a tune !!!!!!!!
